Title: Dog treks 65 miles to find Marine in Iraq
Post by: DREDIOCK on February 22, 2008, 12:21:34 PM
Interesting story

Marine befriends dog.
Dog then tacks marine down 65 miles away.

Now the dog is comming to the USA

One problem I see is the military not letting the troops keep dogs on base.

Seems foolish to me.

Far as I know there is no better early warning device then a good dog.

What a nice story :) Thanks!

A little off topic: One of the more interesting research topics I've ever had was about military dogs & their handlers. I personally don't like to be around dogs, but I'm fascinated with the wonderful relationships between military dogs & their handlers. Mostly it's the soldiers that I believe are real special, but in that instance, when the dogs are helpful to the people I admire the most... the dogs are tops too. :)

A great book is:
Always Faithful: A Memoir of the Marine Dogs of WWII
By William Putney

Putney was a Marine Corps Captain and veterinarian who was commander of the 3rd Marine War Dog Platoon and fought in Guadalcanal and Guam.

no , right now i am training two eight month old labs. Litter mates, both females, one tan, one black and they have different personalities. They also have 12 acres of field and woods to play in.

I should post pics.

Dogs are among the most successful animal evolutionaries everywhere except Asia, where they still haven't figured out how to make people quit eating them.
