... what would your platform be?
I read lots and lots of replies concerning the canditates, but rarely have I read what people are actually standing for. So, I figured there is no better way, than to ask.
Some rules first:
1. Post what your platform would be.
2. Try not to comment on others platforms too much, I'm hoping this wont end up as an Us vs Them thing.
3. I realize there are plenty of problems that need fixing, but since this is a cartoon airplane game BBS, try to limit your replies to your main 4 or 5 planks.
Suggested topics:
War in Iraq
Economy
Gun Control
Abortion
Crime
If there is any interest at all in this thread I'll follow up with my platform, but the sleeping pills are kicking in and I need to go to bed.
-
1. Finish the war on Iraq ASAP.....not just end it.
2. Secure the borders completly then move to 3
3. Fix immigration and start tougher laws for employers
4. Fix the tax system. Lower taxes and make them more balanced
5. Allow for more open talks with the world yet from a position of strength then
6. Keep a less interseted position in world affairs yet keep up with "national intrests.
7. Cancel foreign aid that has no impact
8. Dump a bunch of money into alternative fuels that don't impact our food supply and common sense ecolocical exploration of new rescources...IE....no restrictions on development because of some "endangered weed"
9. Fix social security somehow that didn't involve trillions of dollars from tax money
just the few of the top of my head
-
1.) Make all Federal Employees and Elected Officials have the same deductions for Social Security.
2.) Use the Corporate Welfare budget that has been the Govt's slush fund for the last 25 years, to be put towards for qualified HS graduates to attend a Public University free of charge.
3.) Cease the pissing on Veterans that seems to always happen. Treat them with the respect they deserve.
4.) Consider pulling out of the UN unless reforms take place.
-
Most of my policies would be rather unpopular.
But they would unquestionably get the job done LOL
-
1. Keep troop surge till there is not one single terrorist attack in 1 area for atleast 1 year, then remove 1/2 of the troops from that area.
2. Make welfare harder for the deadbeats who blow our tax dollars for alchol on welfare (basically, limit its subscription to only 1 year)
3. Kick as many, as MANY of the Democrats out of the white house as I can.
4. Keep hostile countries like Iran under control and keep them from attacking our allies like Isreal.
5. Lower taxes on oil so the prices will go down.
6. Almost take away Welfare-benefitted taxes if my #2 plan doesnt work.
7. Bring smoking age to 21 and drinking age down to 18.
8. Stricter policies against murders (revive the Death penalty in all states)
9. Start making our own refineries in America and drilling in America so we dont have to pay for foriegn oil that pays for terrorism.
10. Kick Clintons out of the White House and expose them to the press with all the bad things and scandals that they have been involved with.
I'm probably too strict but hey, everyone can dream....
-
rubber stamping and absolute corruption.
err, what everyone else would hear would be...whatever gunslinger said...sure, that sounds right...:noid

Here's a few:
Take the government out of the hands of the Special Interests/lobbyists, Big Businesses/Big Oil/etc and the Evangelical ultra-moralist whack-jobs. This is meant to be a government of the PEOPLE, by the PEOPLE, for the PEOPLE, NOT one to promote any one group's agenda. No more tax breaks and incentives to Big Business for their support. I would refuse to cater to the lobbyists and promise to push for their pet causes to go into law just for THEIR support. Granted this is a cliché, but I would push for research into alternative fuels to curb reliance on oil, and as with Big Businesses, say buh-bye to tax breaks and incentives to the oil companies. Additionally, I would push for more funding for clean public mass transit such as electric rail lines to provide alternative forms of transportation.
I would push for Congress to enact legislation that would protect the Constitution from being used as so much toilet paper. Warrantless communications taps on American residents must go (in fact, I'm pretty damn sure one of the Amendments on the Bill of Rights already covers this...). I would make it my central platform that civil security MUST NOT be achieved at the expense of civil LIBERTY. I would push for a restructure, or if necessary outright REPEAL, of the overly reactionary Post-9/11 legislature that infringes on the Constitution and Bill of Rights. I will push for Congress to seek alternatives that can strengthen internal security WITHOUT stripping away the rights and liberty of American citizens.
I will strengthen the concept that America is a land of OPPORTUNITY, NOT of free hand-outs. While I wouldn't outright dismantle social welfare programs, I would push for restructuring to prevent mismanagement and abuse (Illegals on Social Security, etc). Rather than being given as a handout, this money will instead be put into a variety of programs that would reward poverty-level residents who WORK to improve their situation:
1. Job training and adult education -- Recipients would be required to attend classes and maintain a given GPA.
1a. While in training, cost of education could be furnished by the government. The possibility exists of an allowance for personal expenses (food, housing, transportation, etc) based on performance in these classes. This assistance would no longer apply once regular employment is secured.
2. Job placement. Improved government assistance with job placement.
3. Tax breaks for low-income residents and citizens who maintain consistent employment, or comply with 1 and 2.
4. Improved incentives, grants and loans for higher education among students from low-income and poverty-level families based on the student's performance.
Increase standards of education for K-12 in public schools. Nationally standardized minimum level of performance, and consistent grading.
Push for the repeal of legislation that has strengthened the "Nanny State." It's time that Americans learn to use their own common sense, and for parents raise their OWN damn kids. The government can't do the job FOR them.
Work with both Congress and the Courts to develop legislation aimed at curbing frivolous lawsuits (I'm looking at YOU, you morons who burn yourselves on a cup of hot coffee and sue the poor kid at McDonald's who served it) and other abuses of the justice system.
I would take a compromise approach to the contentious immigration issue.
1. Push for legislation aimed at stiffening penalties of employers who hire illegal residents.
2. The above restructures to social welfare programs would include provisions to prevent their abuse by undocumented or illegal residents (background checks, push to improve state and national identification to make them harder to counterfeit, etc). Additionally, since funds would instead be going into education, job training and placement rather than directly into the recipient's pocket, this may help remove the "free money" attraction.
2a. If structured correctly to prevent their use by illegals, the above would also be an incentive for immigrants to declare themselves legally.
3. Find a balance between current immigration laws aimed at keeping families together that would minimize abuse of the system.
4. Ease the process of gaining legal residency.
4a. Immigrants would be required to attend a course on US residency, perhaps something similar to the process followed by migrants undergoing Naturalization. Must show an understanding and comprehension of collective American culture, government, etc.
Well, that already took awhile to write, so I'll stop there for right now.

In order of being completed. It's a bit of an anarchist platform
1.) Complete cessation of welfare. For anyone and everyone, including foreign countries and domestic corporations.
2.) Remove the "General Fund" for taxes. Mandate that all taxes in the future must be collected for a specific and known purpose. Any politician who tries to spend it for something else will be summarily executed.
3.) Repeal the 16th amendment. Make it so that any money spent on us must be spent equally on everyone. Because it will become so hard to spend the money, they won't try to take it from us.
4.) Cut off Social Security. The country needs to realize that socialism can't survive. All those who paid into it and not currently receiving money will get 1/4 of what they are currently due. Don't like it? Tough ****, you should have been more self reliant and not expecting for any socialist program to survive.
5.) Illegal Aliens are henceforth kicked out of the country, and forever banned from ever entering again, even with a passport. The southern border will be manned, blocked, and armed to the teeth. Any attempt to cross in will be assumed a hostile invasion, and will be met with force. Any FURTHER attempts of Mexico to help or ease the illegal crossing of our border will be seen as an act of war, and will be punished.
6.) The military will change roles. The US people will come to understand through history, that no war in the history of the world has ever been won without the use of total war. Because the US people currently don't have a collective pair of testicles, the US will switch from a police force that is not willing to win wars, to a punitive hammer, which will punish all those that wrong us. The US will not enter into a REAL war until it wishes the ABSOLUTE destruction of her enemy.
7.) Encourage free market principles, but do not force it (that would be ironic). All government funding of research will be halted. If an item is actually needed by the people, it will be up to a corporation, an individual, or anything in between to provide it, at great profit to themselves.
8.) Get rid of the prison system, and institute a corporal punishment system. The taxpayers will no longer pay millions per "Resident" for a punishment that doesn't work. From here on out, punishments will be bodily harm enacted mere days after sentencing, and visible on a public access television channel. With the strengthening of the evidence available at murder scenes, Murderers will no longer be coddled. They will be executed 6 months to the day after sentencing. Other pansy countries may take the murderers from our "Care" to save from execution.
With this, bodily harm will be enacted, but no disabling of the person will be done. No chopping off hands for shoplifting, but a rousing 20 lashes in the public square will be embarrassing and painful enough.
9.) All federal restrictions or allowances for Abortion will be repealed. As per the constitution, it is up to the STATES to decide whether or not to allow an abortion to happen. Until enacted through the states, abortion would be prohibited. Each state would need 66% of the general vote to allow abortions, and then add qualifiers from there (til 1st trim, 2nd...). But the federal government will enact a few qualifiers of its own. First, no underage may receive an abortion without at least the Parents being notified. From here the states can decide whether or not an abortion can be performed without parent's consent. Second, no one is allowed to cross into another state to receive an abortion. Citizens of those states need to respect the powers and rights granted by their home state, or leave.
10.) Lastly, all things not specifically cited to the government in the constitution will be relegated to the 10th amendment.
-
1. Bring the Constitution back to the forefront and make congress abide by it.
The rest will take care of itself.
-
1. Ban Rap or any other brand of modern music that advocates violence.
2. Lay down federal guidelines for the implementation of the death penalty by the states: to wit, no executions unless their is irrefutable DNA evidence linking the criminal to the crime, and limit the number of appeals to two. Child murderers' and rapists' heads to be placed on a pole in public. (Is that last too Draconian?)
3. Pass laws that encourage the construction of new homes that use "green technology." Give tax incentives to those that do use it. This one step would do far more to curb our dependence on foreign oil than all the "pie- in- the- sky" proposals currently under consideration. Enact legislation that will allow citizens with older, less environmentally friendly construction to upgrade their homes, as much as possible, to the new standards.
4. Finish the war in Iraq. Troop draw downs, if current trends continue, can begin within two years, without loss of prestige or of our hard-won gains.
5. Copy Brazil's bio-fuel program, which uses sugar cane to produce ethanol. Tell the corn grower's lobby to take a hike.
6. Enact legislation allowing all law-abiding ex-servicemen to have a national carry permit for a sidearm. This permit would be good in all public buildings and college campuses. Additional legislation would provide guidelines for the use of deadly force by these men that would supercede all such legislation in the 50 states.
7. Expand early childhood educational/intervention programs so that at-risk children could have access to educational opportunities as early as the age of two or three.
8. Require the use of phonetics and rote memorization of multiplication/division tables. Fire any elementary teacher or official who resists this return to common sense.
9. Expand the school voucher, target school, and magnet school systems. Tell the NEA to STHU.
10. Do away with the welfare system. Replace it with vocational training and a job program system. If your healthy bellybutton doesn't work, it gets squat from the government.
11. Legalize heroine, cocaine, and crack cocaine. Give the stupid users all they want....and stand back and watch the gene pool improve. No government health care for them either.
12. Formerly recognize atheism as a religion, and place it under the protection of the First Amendment.
13. Graduated tax cuts for all income levels....no one is excluded. Such tax cuts to be made permanent.

Education.
Lasersailor- "WHAT?!!!!!!? EDJE A MAH CAY SHIN! WHAT ARE YOU CAV? SOME PINK, COMMUNIST, SOCIAL LOVING LIBERAL HIPPIE? We don't need to work on education. In fact, anyone who cant score higher than a B in school should be executed because they are unfit for my society. GOD BLESS AMERICA, I"M A REAL LIVE PATRIOT!"
Wouldn't be suprised.....

Education falls back to the 10th amendment. It isn't up to the federal government to make the regulations.
If someone doesn't like how their school system performs, they can take their tax money elsewhere.

Your too much laser...Honestly, I think it would be very comical to see you in person, and how you interact with other people. Thats something I would pay for.

1. Constitutional amendments:
----a. Term limits of 12 years maximum in the legislature.
---------(i) require a 14 year qualification for pensions
----b. Require that Senators and Congressmen stay in their districts and telecommute their legislative duties.
-------(i) Makes easier citizen access to their sens/reps.
-------(ii) Lobbists would have to travel to 535 different offices in many different regions to face to face with congress.
-------(iii) spreads out congress as a defense against an attack/accident at DC that would take out the govt.
2. I am against same sex marriage. It's pretty gay.

I like DiabloTX's platform. It's like Ron Paul's New Years Resolution he suggested to the other candidates, "Read your oaths of office."

First
We, by national referendum, will roll all laws back to Dec 31 1868 ... then we will prosecute any senator or house member that has, by their vote record, violated their oath to uphold the constitution.
As an option to prosecution, they may resign and forfeit any and all government pay and allowances for the remainder of their and/or their dependents lifetimes.
This will leave between 30 and 50 "freshman" legislators two years to revamp the federal laws before the next general election.
Second
We, by national referendum, will abolish "personal" income tax at the federal level. It runs the government for less than 30 days a year and is just a talking point that keeps people divided. A federal "sales tax" of 2 or 3 percent will more than make up the difference.
Third
We, by national referendum, will pass an amendment to the constitution that will not allow congress to spend more than 90% of last years federal income. Any and all surpluses will go directly to paying the national debt.
Have the supreme court write a decision pointing out exactly where in the constitution it gives the federal government the right to redistribute wealth ... any wealth.
Trash the federal reserve and go back to the gold standard ... but let the price of gold fluctuate on the world market ... if gold needs to be $2 or $2000 an oz to cover so be it.
I think that if we take care of the constitutional and the money issues the rest of the issues will shortly fall into line.

6 years total term limit - elections every year
after the politicians get through dreaming them up and with tinkering with them, and gets signed by the President, every bill must be voted on at large by the general populations and require at least 75% of the votes to pass and become law.
every law made can be repealed by at large by the general populations with at least 26% of the votes to repeal. requires 10 signatures of 10 different persons to be placed on the ballot to be considered for repeal.
a person must be born and live in the district of the office to be elected to the office by at large general population of that district with majority rules.
----b. Require that Senators and Congressmen stay in their districts and telecommute their legislative duties.
ditto
require the salaries of all the offices to be voted on at large by write-in once a year, majority rules.
require all politicians to turn their pensions acquired in office over to the Social Security Administration and get the same as the rest when it gets doled out.
repeal all of the Federal drug and gun laws.
repeal any and all laws at all levels that violate the Constitution of The United States.
enforce the heck out of Title 18 United States Code section 242.
require every citizen over the age of 18 to carry a firearm of some type. exception those currently in a mental institution or currently incarcerated for crimes. after they are released, they are rearmed.
require every citizen over the age of 18 to be deputized as a law enforcement officer. exception those currently in a mental institution or currently incarcerated for crimes. after they are released, they are redeputized.
require every citizen over the age of 18 to be combat ready in case of invasion or war.
require the immediate executions of criminals caught red handed.
work to make the tax code simple. 10% income tax no deductions type of thing or national sales tax only. leaning to national sales tax. at least have choice whether to buy or not.
I could go on with more. in general
Bring the Constitution back to the forefront and make congress abide by it.
enforce 18 U.S.C. section 242 more vigorously.

I like it. However, I would change the 90% of last years income, to only being allowed to spend 90% of the amount spent last year. This could help reign in some of that spending.
One thing I was interested in seeing was for the Federal Government to earn its OWN money. I.E. Start up a American Business, and make a lot of money through hard work.
OH! Nearly forgot!!! My 11th. bullet point.
11.) All people who are currently politicians at ANY level in government from the President all the way down to a local level school board are here by instantly banned from holding political office for 50 years. The problem with politics is that it is full of politicians.
