Any advice on a new headset/mic? Mine is mediocre at best. Any recommendations would be approved...

I use THESE (http://www.edimensional.com/product_info.php?cPath=22&products_id=30)
work perfect, nice and clear, the bass is really good, track clip pro compatible, and at a reasonable price..
BTW many people have issues with USB mics.. scratchy sound for example..
one with an actual MIC jack is probably the way to go.

I reviewed about 10 true surround-sound headphones for Computer Power User Magazine in November. Sometimes, i really have a great job. ;-)
The Turtle Beach's recommended unit (above) have the best overall sound, but they clamp on your head a little more tightly than any of the other units, and I found it uncomfortable over time. They don't reproduce the 3-d effect quite as nicely as the other two I'm about to mention, but they do music better, if you follow me. 3-d sound is very convincing, of course, but the others do it slightly better. TB make the best sounding USB headphones too.
The Speed-Link/Medusa's sound almost as good as the Turtle Beaches, but they reproduce 3-d sound better, and are much more comfortable. They also have a nice amplifier with lots of jacks for cross-connecting lots of equipment in and out. They are about as expensive as the Turtle Beach's.
The Tritton AX51's use basically the same body as the Medusa, but they trade a little subwoofer size for a rumble pack. They sound almost as good as the medusas and have better 3-d sound than the TB's. They are also a bargain. Check out http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826235003
FWIW, I use the Medusa's for AH (and other games) every flight.
For more info, go to http://www.computerpoweruser.com/ and read the archives (you might need to be a subscriber to read the whole thing - sorry.)

That's probably true...
I've also found that wearing headphones while I'm wearing my glasses, that the headphones press my ears against the earpieces of the glasses, and that gets to be uncomfortable after a time...

we shall see ,
just ordered a set from Newegg.
Im not a fan of the USB mic (or usb in general when it comes to audio) but after reading some reviews, I must give these a try.

I use logitech headphones with built in mic. The ones I use do not go over the top of your head... instead they go behind the head. Very comfortable and great sound.

I got a pair for christmass and love them. With Force feed back and audio quality they are great for the game. Also great to listen to music, and has 5.1 surround sound. The only down fall i would say is the mic is not long enough. They say it is so you and eat and drink while you play so its not in the way.

You mean that fuzzy thing at the end of the mike isn't supposed to be encrusted with French Onion dip?? :D

I use my David Clark H10 13.4. Ok spending $300 for a headset might be a seem a bit crazy but if you are actually a pilot and have a headset you might as well get some extra use out of it. There are cheaper pilot headsets available and no doubt can be bought on ebay.
You need this adapter though because the microphone needs power. A 9 volt battery provides that:
http://www.pilotproduct.com/ptt.html It costs about $50 but can be bought cheaper here:http://www.mypilotstore.com/mypilotstore/sep/3334
The only problem with the DC's is that you can no longer hear the wife sneak up on you.
:lol

I also use the HPA2 Turtle Beach non USB headphones. I don't know how much and if it matters, but I also use a Turtle Beach soundcard (got it becaue it wasn't expensive and I'm about to hand down this pc). IMO they are great headphones and the sound is great. To me they don't feel like they squeeze my head until after wearing them for a long perion of time and then I notice it a little. Like stated above, I guess it all depends on if you have a fat head or not.

Hmm. I'm still trying to decide how to take that. ;-)
Anyway, my helmet size is Medium, so I think we can assume that my head isn't physically larger than average.
Bottom line: when compared to other surround sound headsets, the spring tension on the Turtle Beach's is significantly higher than others.

just kidding with ya :aok
It does have a good "grip". If your use to cheapy "on ear" type headsets you will notice a difference. I put in 6-7 hours on a saturday....only day I really get to fly.... and don't have any trouble with them.

I use the Turtle Beach HPA surround sound... With the multiple speaker hook up in each ear piece, it's easy to distinguish the direction of sounds etc.. Also built very well and at 1 year old it's still a solid performer after being dropped from computer desk countless times... A bit expensive, but this game is the heroin of WW2 flight Sims and the investment of a good stick, throttle, pedals, headset, and puter make it a worthwhile experience.
