Title: The Positive Thread
Post by: republic on February 24, 2008, 05:54:03 PM
The AvA forum has descended into a quagmire that is really serving no constructive good.  So how about this, we say something positive about the AvA or players within.

The spirited attempt to recover the southwestern most airbase was a hoot.  It was great to see a coordinated allied force.  Hope to see more of that in the future!

I like the small map, leads for some great fights with little travel time.  Also tends to discourage altmonkeying.

I agree Republic

The Axis did a great job defending 25 this evening when I was on. Had to leave for RL issues, but I had fun even though when I left we still had not taken the base.

<> Axis.

Now that im Allied CO, there will be a lot of coordination for the allies.

only rules i saw broken were #1 and #2 but those are rules that you cant expect everyone to follow by.

Was fun, and the night is young.  Expect heavy fighting to come!!

Positively love shooting down 110's and 109's in a Spit or P40B. :D

Been Ho'd, and been a ho.  Vultched, and been vultched.  Ganged and been ganged. Picked and been picked.  I try to avoid all of the above, but it's just not possible, all of the time.  Does anyone know of an arena this never happens?  Heck I even read a thread this morning comparing, and calling the DA furball area a "mini MA".

Get positive.  Yeah, some vets are missing the old AvA.  Sucks to lose something you enjoyed.  Climb back aboard and lead the way.  Bottom line for me, AvA is the ONLY place I can log in and find an ongoing battle where I don't have to fight other Axis planes.  Where "everyone" in the place is working together toward a larger goal.   Where at least there is some semblance, albeit small, of an Historical struggle.

Best daily Arena in the game at the moment.

Your right Stompf...

Ive done all that you listed, and had it done back to me.  Im tired of the LA hordes in the MA.  For example, couple weeks ago did a squad mission, we knocked everythign down but 1 FH.  Within 2 minutes, we had about 30 LA7s up hoing us and everything.  After that, i knew i needed a break from the MAs.

Despite all the problems, the AvA is worth it for the simple fact of historical setups.

That's because there are no rules of engagement.

What you've got are just suggestions, a polite request. Nothing more. A lotta folks don't care. I will say I did have a brief sortie where I had some fun in a 110C, but pretty much every P-40 I saw HOed me :D

I guess it's okay... I got 6 before I actually accepted the 7ths HO, and I might have sent him down as well.

You might as well say "don't fly above 5K" in the "rules" because it's only a suggestion, and if folks want/have to fly otherwise, it'll happen.

It's just par for the course.

I remember one time [years ago] I was in a 190a5 and nearing an enemy field, and 5 spitfires in a ROW were heading for me, a little slower but basically co-alt. They were pretty much daisy-chained 1k or less behind each other. What could I do? I dodge the first, can't turn on the second or third or fourth, so I merge on tail end charlie and shoot him down reducing the fight.

I got a bit of grief about it, passing up all others and going for him. Despite protests that "they'd have stayed out of it" (hah!) they were all 1k or less from each other and spits vs 190s, you have to even the odds asap. I ended up bagging 3-4 and limping home but I did the right thing (the only thing) for the situation, despite the protests I received on text.

EDIT: Just in case it was unclear, the point is I did what I had to in my given engagement regardless of how others felt. You can't put rules on that kind of stuff.

EDIT2: In keeping with the "positive" part of the original post: I did have fun in the 110. Not exactly historic matchups, but balanced enough to be fun.

This pic is just for you Republic, for being positive and a B-52 addict.  I snaped this pic a few years ago; not too many pics floating aound with a B-17 and a B-52 flying in formation.
