It looks better than it did back in the days that I tried it....
But is it as gamey as it once was ?.......

It is crap, it wants* life.
:Edit: i take that back, very eye candy.
-
Water graphics look good.
How many subscribers do you think it has?
I also wonder if they use the hit bubble like Aw used to or if it's more like AH.
Same price, they must have something to compete against AH with.
-
The water effect looks like someone is playing with a toy boat in their bath tub...
:lol
-
they have a supply system going for them according to their wiki.
It just feels a bit like corgi toys vs hand painted die cast... but who knows

I was thinking the same thing.. It's like they over did the glossy look.
-
glossy is easier than grimy, graphics wise. that must be it.
The installer wont run under vista. Any volunteers to see whats happening over at fighter ace land?
-
Heh. It'll install on my PC, but the updater won't run.
Windows Vista, and I have the overly-paranoid security turned OFF (so don't need to Unblock, OR specify to run as admin).
Not gonna bother with it further tonight.

I remember the month I tried FA2 screwy as hell view system. I got bounced there more in a month then ever here.
One good thing though they had a Tu-2
I was chasing one once, about 1,2 back fired one single shell, that I watched arc into his belly ord. BOOM!
-
lol!
So is it a sim or an arcade game?
Maybe we should challenge them to a duel!?!
-
Tried to download/install. It keeps' coming up with a checkscript missing error in the updater. I'll contact them, try again tomorrow.

its arcade flight model in most of the arena's . with a dot zip zoooom your dead flight model .the graphics are photo vs the flowing terrain we have here . I dont think the latency has been recoded either yet ,,so if it ever gets up around 100 players it turns into a lag fest ... the only cool thing about FA is all the planes it has .
-
I still say we should challenge them to a duel.
Their best gets 2 weeks to practise over here against a one of ours.
Then vica versa.

That would be like Delta Force challenging the Boy Scouts to a shoot out.
-
They have 107 planes........
A few that would be nice over here......

I stopped playing Fighter Ace, 3 years ago, mainly due to player numbers and lack of development.
The current version stems from what was released in January 2002 and not much has changed since.
It's a ghost town. The only things going for it are the events at the weekend and instant action. Takes less time to get into a fight than AH. The water does look pretty compared to AH and the explosions. No skins from the default ones though and the terrain is generic patchwork.
wolf, If you were to take the very best 6 guys from there against 6 from AH I wouldn't want to place any bets. In a KOTS setup the guys from FA would win because of team tactics. Indivadually the AH guys would win due to a better flight model. However, long gone are the best FA sticks and squadrons. Drifted to other fantasy games, FPS'ers or ended up here.
I think if I re-activated my account today I would still easily be in the top ten (on the leaderboard). Only reason the hanger ons are still there in my opinion because of their precious scores. If they reset them, the game would die.
They added the Korean jets recently and i'm sure they are fun for some it just isn't going to turn the game around. If you don't want to spend hours mastering the AH learning curve FA maybe the easier option.

I came here from FA years ago.......

Roger that but now I don't fly in any game at all.

I fly AH only these days.............
-
I played it. It needed a lot of work to get to where AH is now. Like playing a so so game with 10 year old graphics. Why bother?
-
That's a gawd awful looking P38 in the first post. And whoever skinned it needs to check their sources too. Yuck!

ITS CRAP!
Everything about this game, now says (im old, dont use me)
And im the kinda guy who plays Eduke32 and js shadow warrior ffs.
I love old games.
Fighter aces was best back in98' when it was the main sim on the market.
ANYTHING, fighter aces could do* aces high can now do better.
Sorry, tryed it again..just for the (whats it become) and its shameful.
-
Ouch.
I guess it's dead but haven't fallen over yet.
Thanks for the input
-
came from Fa when it went to Fa2
was a great starting place but AH spoils you
-
Can't believe people pay money to fly there when they can fly here.
Was over at Warbirds site yesterday. On a monday nite nothing going on. 91 people on in all their arena's. The forums are sad. Lots of squadies complaining about losing people. (WB) JG 26 went from 30 people to 4.

I'm beginning to wonder about you. First you come back on this BBS after "so long away", spouting how much you think Hitech sucks and that this game should be better, better graphics, better this... better that...
And now you troll a flagrant promotion of this product on here?
Advertise elsewhere sir. We aren't going anywhere else. I think it's about time the powers that be here show you to the door, sir.

i checked out fighter ace about 6 months ago just to see what it was like. I un-installed it an hour later.

Well, FH3 took a big step from FH2, has anyone ever played FH2?? If FH3 is anything like FH2, it will be nowhere close to historically accurate.
Yea, the graphics arent that good. I went and checked out the P-39, it was cheesier than Hillary Clintons promises for a better America. (too cheesy but ya get my point :D )

I'm simply looking at your past posting performance. You seem to be trolling here. I apologize if that is jumping to conclusions after reading... ohh, 4 of your previous posts and two of the threads which you started.
(Both of which were negative towards the product whose bbs you posted on. The negativity you put forth was not suggestive, it was overtly critical of things you "expected" to have changed... of which you did absolutely no searching for yourself to answer your own question.)
Generally, if I wanted to know what had changed with a product, I might start out by asking about it and finding a detailed list of changes... I wouldn't start out my first thread since "re-signing onto the site" with...
I see a few new planes but that seems to be about it.
The graphics are horribly, horribly dated by today's standard and it seems like people are asking for the same things as before. A few database driven balancing tweaks plus the towns. But really. That seems like a very short effort.
After which you post screenshots from that site?
Certainly seems strange, two threads started by you, that are attempting to make a point of what you feel are this game's weaknesses.
My apologies sir. I hope you find whatever game you're looking for.

I agree, absolutely. My bad. It was silly not to do so. But now I've been playing a bit, I do see great changes. Perhaps not a new graphics engine, which one may have expected, but still good change. :aok

I really didn't mean to point out any short comings. If I seem overly negative, that's not my intention.
Again, I have a lot of love for AH. And I do think I have expressed some positivity in AAtalen's thread. Ask him, he's flown with me on a few occasions. I'll be chitchatting about how great this is and what a good feeling it is to be back. Maybe one day You and I can fly some sorties together, mate?
This thread was just because I stumpled upon the FA site and not know what it was I simply asked.
-
Don't sweat it Wolf. Let's say I had a big reputation In FA and I did my best to help and suggest new ideas that fell on deaf ears. When I left it had gone downhill rapidly, now it is as I said a Ghost town, compared to AH.
Sometimes when I do check their boards I sometimes see posts saying AH sucks compared to FA. I obviously post in an objective manner putting them straight on a few things and of course the post would either be removed by PPS (their hitlerite MOD) or flamed by protective folk.
Basically don't piss in other peoples back yards and even if you have what you perceive to be a moderate post others won't see it that way.
Any experienced AH player would laugh at a fresh download of FA. Any experienced FA players 1st reaction to AH will be the frustration of the better flight model and lack of padlock (forced cockpit) and quit. Personally I like a challenge so stuck at it. I do miss some things, mainly the squadron events and the country specific planeset. As GB we used to stomp over many maps and resets. Being the war winning Field Marshal and ringleader of all things British! Just got boring after awhile.
I see your from Denmark we have an old LTD member flying with us here and I used to fly with the great Wildane who used to be Damned. You should check us out if you get the chance. Looking at your scores you may benefit from a wingman ;)
-
Thanks for that constructive post.
And yes, I need a wingman and a sensei. I have a hotas set and even some pedals I cannibalized from a steering wheel, but I'm absolutely hopeless still. Nose bounce from rudder inputs like crazy (none from the stick) and a tendency to lose SA.
I wont be around this week, way too much work, but when do you guys usually fly? I'll look out for you and hook myself to a wing :)
-
I'm quite busy this week also.
As a recruitment policy we only allow British or Euro players into our squad. So that we don't have to worry about timezones.
I usually play during the evening 6-11pm GMT.
Everything can be tweaked here, i'm sure with a bit of scaling on your rudder and stick you can get it to stop that Nose bouncing. I have a full CH setup and love it.
We are currently Bish so keep an eye out.

I'll be sure to come along for a flight with you fellas, would be my honour.
-
I remember leaving AW after it was discontinued and some of our squad (The MAW)went to WB and others to AH. I tried them both and decided with 40dog that even tho it was much harder, AH was the better game. The majority of the squad felt the same and came here to play. Now that I have been playing here off and on since it might be hard to choose another unless it was at least as good. Then i might use the both. Theres nothing wrong with competition but is FA even competition? As I understand, the most dedicated sim pilots that want to get as close to real life flying as you can get choose IL2. but it can't handle as many subscribers in one room as AH. Which probably means less kids and stronger competition in the air. Again, I bet some AH'ers, FA'er and WB'ers have both.
I wonder if WB is even still here? hummm
-
Isn't FA the one where they porked the flight models to promote parity among the nations? I don't know why I remember that.
I loaded FA2 back in 2002, but to be honest I really didn't like the feel of the flying. I guess it was probably just being used to AH, but it just didn't work for me.

FA 2.5 was the one with brown mud for terrain. It was hosted on the microsoft gaming zone and had a decent sized community.
2002 was around the time FA3 came out and many people couldn't play it because their machines werent good enough. Mine included. I tried AH1 around this time and thought that it sucked and left a week into a free trial to get a new PC.
I remember getting 3 kills in a Niki and many people running away whenever I got near them! Looking back on that week I can appreciate how many people I have convinced to give AH a go and them not like it all.
Without guidance its tough going.
-
Intrigued I downloaded it and had a go at the training. Oh dear. Easiest flight model ever, old graphics, basic scenery etc etc. Basically it is CFS2 isn't it?
In AH2 even offline you can get a sense that you are really flying in an aeroplane. Not there. Too arcadey.
AH2 for all it's flaws is top of the pile. I can't wait to see the sim that supersedes it.
Not all I have to do is unmax my credit card and resubscribe. I hear CT is only two weeks away. Can't wait;)
-
There are different levels of realism, level 1 being arcade, level 5 being intermediate and level 10 advanced. I would put AH around the level 6-7 settings there.
In some cases for me AH can be easier because of the slower (correct) acceleration of planes. They had them cranked up to 2x times acceleration awhile back then lowered it to 1.5x. This made taking off and getting into fights quicker and easier. Also you could equalise E much faster against BnZing tactics.
If you still have it on your computer jump into FFA and play it for an hour when its populated it is brutal. Don't break your stick though it will get worn out pretty quick.
I just wish the rest of the guys that I knew back then, who would be very dangerous here, would just open there eyes and jump ship. This is where the red meat is!

Hardly, even in '98 AW had far more players and subscribers and then there was Warbirds. FA has always been and will always be 3rd fiddle.
