Title: Call the waaambulance, I'm having a breakdown errr...ish
Post by: gpwurzel on February 26, 2008, 04:00:20 AM
Hi All,
Having a few snags with Track IR - namely, cant shoot cr$p down..lol......

It does make it much easier to track multiple cons - but at the moment - all that means is I can see death approaching lol. I'm still refining the profile Homeboy directed me too as its way too aggressive at the moment, so still learning.

Thoughts on it so far - good improvement in SA, if I could shoot straight I'd even have some kills using it (got 1 yesterday - note 1 lol.)

Downsides - not being used to it - I get lost easily - views dont come naturally at the mo

Profile - needs refining further to avoid having to move head around as much, but not be as aggressive as Homeboys.

Will I keep using it? - yes

It makes the game so much more immersive (to me anyway) and looking forward to when it all makes much more instinctive sense.

I didn't like track IR when I tried it.

There is a command you can set up on your joystick to shut off the head movement when you are about to shoot...I never got around to trying it though.  I imagine it helps ALOT with gunnery.

My biggest issue was the body "english" I have naturally when flying without track ir.  I cannot stay still in a dogfight, my head and entire body move around too much and I could not even hope to try and control it.

So you occasionally duck in a headon pass too eh? LOL

Yep, thats one of the problems I'm having Curval - way more body movement than I realised - will take some time getting used to it, and refining the profile I'm using (there is a default aces high one called combat flight).

Tis very interesting tho - if I can remember to actually turn my head to look around, listen to check 6's, and not fly stupid (actually, I fly stupid all the time ho hum)

I never realized how much I moved my head around before I got a TIR.  The only thing I can recommend is to tough it out and do not cheat by disabling it for gunnery :).  I did that and it took quite a while before I was comfortable.  You need to develop some new muscle memory, so keep tweaking and eventually it will become second nature.
