just for kicks was wondering what the benefits overclocking my pc were and what effects/improvements i would see in AH?

first off overclocking isnt always a good idea. overclocking is making you computer componets work harder which means they get hot a whole lot faster.
if you have the right componets it makes graphics look a whole lot better.
I WOULD NOT SUGGEST DOING IT UNLESS YOU HAVE UPGRADED YOU COOLING SYSTEM.

overclocking is just like adding a bigger cpu. The benifets are a faster running cpu, the down side is if you overclock to far, your system becomes unstable and crashes. If you do get it faster and stable, you get heat.... a lot of heat. Standard fans most likely will not be enough.
When overclocking your not going to double or tripe your cpu. If you have a 2.8, most likely you might get to 3.0. Nothing really big.

Thanx fellas....doesn't sound like the pros are worth the cons...maybe just add better components to this computer instead of risking trashing it.

just to add to that if u do it wrong u can "fry" components. overcloacking also cuts short the life span of the component.

Also if any parts of your computer that you are planning to OC are still under warranty, like the video card for instance, overclocking will void those warranties. I have my 7900GTX OC'd and my system RAM but I didn't tackle that until I did tons of research into the matter...I suggest you do the same.
Good luck! :aok

Overclocking is also very motherboard/CPU dependent. As a general rule its a "good" idea when performance is marginal and either no real upgrade path is available or it isnt cost effective over the long haul. As a general rule you can overclock anything about 15% with little in the way of problems. Once get beyond that your incuring greater risk but some CPU/MB combinations can easily be OC'd by 20-30% with stock cooling (assuming good case ventilation etc). If your getting 30+ FPS but your system "bogs down" underload to mcuh lower levels then OCing can give you 40+ FPS and minimize your drop under load. If you post your specs i'm sure you'll get a few replies on what may or may not be feasable.
