Does anyone know where I can get a free/cheap copy of microsoft powerpoint? I t doesnt need to be the latest, I just need a working copy of powerpoint for school and cannot afford $230 for a copy.

Try OpenOffice, an open source office suite that has Impress, a PowerPoint replacement.  Totally free:

Theres open office or you can buy the student edition.  It also has word and excel.
