It was the first earthquake i've ever felt.  Around 1am the whole room was shaking (well obviously), funnily enough all i was worried about was my monitor falling off.  A housemate knocked on my door to see if i'd felt it too- we were slightly confused because we weren't aware we have earthquakes in yorkshire.  The other 2 housemates slept through it.:D

This is England - we don't do earthquakes. That's why it is unusual.

I doubt many British structures are designed for earthquakes.  So in that regard I'd be concerned for its peoples safety.

One person from my hometown suffered a broken pelvis when the chimney stack fell through the roof onto his bed. He was quite lucky, so I understand.

I was in Alaska for almost four years. Felt a number of earthquakes during that time. Biggest one was 5.something, centered 90 miles from Anchorage. Lasted a minute or so maybe.

I've slept through two so far here in NY (one we later found out was a sonic boom from an SR-71...), so its really not that hard to do.

The second one (the actual 'quake) my girlfriend woke me up all hysterical. I made some disparaging comment about her needing to find some better weed and went back to sleep.
