Title: German Troops for SdKfz 251?
Post by: Xasthur on February 27, 2008, 11:25:34 PM
Now that we have a German troop carrier are we going to get German troops?

That'd be a nice little touch.

You mean it would only take 3 troops to capture a town, 5 if the ack is up, and 10 to pork a base, blow a town, capture a base, and earn the country 30 points each?

yes, animated troops even if with just 4-6 animations would be great.

Fairly simple too.

I was thinking a German folk dance perhaps?

On a serious note, this is what I had in mind as far as uniforms go:

someone missed Serenity's sarcasm :)

In any case, the current troops look like just like the pilots.  I believe they all share the same "dude" skin.  HTC would have to create allied and axis troops if anything.

I believe there are already German dudeskins for CT, so it shouldn't be that much trouble.

Not to worry, you don't need to see a glorification of the Waffen SS.

I thought you were thinking of something more like this (they could make the Luftwaffe pilots the same as the German troops too):

Oh, please.

It's just historical footage. There is no agenda.

There are many films on Youtube that glorify the SS, this is not one of them.

I posted the clip as a demonstration of my idea for the German ground troops. I did not post it to invite half-cocked ideological comments. Please stay on topic.

Lusche observed that this video was not available in his country.  There is a reason for that.  It is possible that you do not notice it.

Although it's hard for me to believe that.

I'm quite sure you're aware that Germany is well known for over-censorship.

Aces High is perfect example, our skins cannot display the swastika because of it as I understand it. Cartoon swastikas on cartoon planes might insight a Nazi uprising, after all.

The video is footage of german troops in action. There are no pro-Nazi images. It is merely footage of something that took place in time.

The song itself that plays in the background is sung by a German singer named Heino. His career did not start until the mid 60's.

The song itself was written in the 1800s IIRC. If nothing else it was well before the invasion of Poland was even a thought. I suspect it is blocked in Germany because Hitler liked what the song is about and as a result the 8th SS Cavalry Division Florian Geyer was named after Florian Geyer in March 1944. It's a modern adaptation of an old song that some guy has thrown together on youtube. The song or footage says nothing about Nazism being good. That's all there is to it.

Now, before this thread gets needlessly hijacked, how about we discuss the topic at hand rather than beat the dead Nazism horse? Nothing productive will come of it.

The model shown was not a troop carrier version of the SdKfz 251. It was an SdKfz 251/2 artillery support vehicle, firing rockets indirectly, not a troop carrier.

It shouldn't have troops unless there is a version without the rockets. Its "payload" was the crew and reloads.

That being said you would think it would be straight forward to have a "regular" SdKfz 251 as well, to carry troops and supplies.

Its a mix SdKfz 251 Ausf C and a 251/1.

Arch I think they could quite easily add a different graphic for leathery partial indivaduals to run from the new halftrack.   Least I hope so because it will be rather ghey if a bunch of pilots run from it.

Plus I would also get an extra kick out of shooting them in their funny uniforms ;)

hmm does this mean if we get German troops for the SdKfz 251 and we got our goofy pilots from M3s does this mean that we will see an all out Fist fight or pistol wipping contest if someone brings an m3 and a SdKfz 251 to a city to capture it? Germans vs Goofy Pilots, who will capture the city! :O

I think it should have troop capacity and a single "salvo", or no troops with a "cargo" of rocket reloads, thats how it is in the real world. Armed HTs did not carry troops because the space was taken up by the ordnance (mortar, AT-gun, ect), and ammo, and sometimes a larger crew.

Hopefully they will include in the hanger:

*Rocket re-loads
*Cargo
*Troops

...and you can pick one.

The AH 251 will be able to run without the rockets attached so there was no need to make the skin an actual "Stuka zu fuss" version.

its not a dedicated Arty version it will have loadouts. Then again it is subject to change before release so who knows.
