He did some fine work and had vision, but I also have to say he became overrated along with most of the TV builders. His influence will be missed.

I would agree.

I bet he was a fine craftsman and a good designer in his day even if i think hotrods, funnycars or whatever they are called are silly. I must say that from what ive seen on the tv show both him and his workshop manager had the worst leadership skills ive seen. There were some very talentede employees there tho even if two of them went to work for Foose. I dont blame them

Boyd had many faults but being a inovator and a craftsman weren't among them.  He was highly influential in the hot rod community and his work will influence hot rodders well into the future.  He was a hell of a visionary.

It makes good television. Reality TV, ain't.

Oh, and hot rods are no sillier than boats.

Yes it does

and

So true if you compare apples to oranges. If you did want to compare something that you really cant compare in the first place, the correct thing would be to compare cars with boats. ;)

You were comparing a tiny segment of cars to boats in general so your comparrison was way off.

If you were to compare hot rods with say twin hulled speedboats or any other type of specific boat that had no other use than carry 2 people around then i would agree with you.

You knew EXACTLY what I meant. A pleasure boat is a pleasure boat. If you don't NEED it for work or for basic transportation then it is no different than a hot rod.

You are still way off. A pleasure boat is not a pleasure boat. It can serve ALOT more functions than a hotrod can ever do.

Not really. And I've owned a few. Of each. I like both. But to say one is more pointless than the other is a crock of crap.

Were have i said that?

I would say tho that a hot rod serves the same purpose as a jetski or 2 man speedboat.. not a pleasure boat or boat in general.

It serves the same purpose as a bass boat, or a sail boat, or a ski boat, or even a big cruiser. To allow the user/owner to go have fun. You get in ANY of them to go have fun. If it isn't a boat you work out of, or go to work in, it's no different than a hot rod. You use it for FUN.

You can get in a hot rod and drive to work, or the grocery store, or across the country.  In ANY pleasure boat on a lake you can ride around in circles and waste gas.

well..  captain you are wrong....

pleasure boats and hot rods are nothing like the same..  hot rods appreciate in value while pleasure boats are less and less every year until they reach zero or you have to pay someone to haul them off.

boyd?   mixed feelings about the guys life.. in some ways he ruined hot rodding a bit...  It was never supposed to be for the middle aged rich guy but...

even tho I thought most of his stuff was ugly overdone..  I had to admire his talent in metalworking.

You can get a pleasure boat and go to work, the grocery store, around the country, live in it, have a vacation in it, take the entire family and all your stuff on long holidays. Sail around the world with gas or without.

Unless i missed somthing and a pleasure boat is clearly defined in size, performance and load capacity.

Point is the same. Virgin Hilts compared boats with hot rods.

I'd say its a fair comparison- they're both things you don't need and a bottomless pit you try to fill with your hard earned time and money...

I use my TV, pedal bike, computer and bed for fun. Shal we compare those with hotrods too?

Yes time and money goes into both but there it pretty much ends. Unless you compare Hot rods with speedboats or other specific boats that serve only one or a very limited number of purposes.

the cars he had built were nice but come on, a $500,000 "hot rod", once upon a time hot rods were fast cars built on the cheap by guys that didn't have allot of money.

I watched his show a couple of times for a few minutes and almost threw up.   They have talent.. no doubt but...

I would walk right by any of his creations without a glance in order to look at some "rat rod".

He definitely had talent.
As far as hot rods goes, in the last portion of his life.........well he wasn`t doing any. Concept cars , replicas with modern shinies and features along with some creations I wouldn`t know exactly how to hang a name on.
Can`t say that I blame him for going for the bucks of the rich and stupid, but it would have been nice to see him spend more time on rods.

I watched a few episodes whrn I was bored and couldn't find anything else to watch. It was the same format as the oc chopper thing. Owner acts like an arse throws tantrums and others do the work supposedly under "killing pressure". Yawn.

The cars were kind of nice but nothing I would buy. I'd rather have a restored 70's vintage car that is back to the way it came out of the factory rather than something built up to be someting it'wasn't designed to be. Give me a late 60's Charger, 'Cuda, 'Stang or Camaro that is restored and drivable on the roads. I'd still be a bit afraid to drive it much due to the loss in a collision or theft though. Hell give me a Studebaker 'Hawk and I'd be really happy!
