Title: Killling ships (and messages)
Post by: hogenbor on March 01, 2008, 10:20:37 AM
Ok, I got bored and started upping 110's to kill a lonely burning CV. I haven't done dive bombing/ground attack in years mind you.

I strafed the CV and a destroyer and got blown out of the sky a few times. However, I seemed to me that I blew up a destroyer (visually at least) with a lot of 'gun emplacement destroyed' messages. What was 'missing' though was a message that the ship had been sunk. Or did I miss this because flak got me?

Anyway, I finally managed to get some bombs into the CV and again was awarded a lot of 'gun emplacement destroyed' messages. But not 'enemy ship destroyed'. I remember from long back that this message existed so what gives? Did I sink the CV or not?

i nkow that if you fire torpedoes and sink a ship you get the message even if you are shot down.

I've always got a ship destroyed message when I sink one. There are alot of guns you can kill now, maybe you weren't the one to finish it off.

While GUNS may stay down for a while, the damage on the hull itself seems to regenerate/time out fairly fast. Using default MA settings I've done some tests offline. You have to sink it fast or the hull damage doesn't count. I'd guess/wonder if it's the same as troop timeout on a maproom: 10 minutes.

When hitting a ship with a torp or bombs, but dying first, you still get the messages, but not the perks.

No.  You didn't sink the ship.  You would see "Ship Destroyed".

I have seen the "Ship Destroyed" message in between the "Hard...Soft Gun Destroyed" ect.  messages before, and I think once at the beginning of all the "Destroyed" messages. :huh
