MANY many pardons if this has been posted here before. A race from a standing start between eurofighter "typhoon" and a bugati. Who is gonna win?
The car goes from a standing start to 1 mile down the runway, brakes, and turns around and comes back to the start/finish line. The plane takes off from standing start, accellerates, goes to an altitude of 1 mile above the runway, flips, dives back down and then levels out a hundred or two above the runway and flies back at his best speed to that same start/finish line.
Again, who ya think will win it before you look?

Hmm..I suspect the Eurofighter will win by a good margin.

After watching that... I don't think the numbers on the Eurofighter, at least as published are anywhere near correct. There is absolutely no way that that was only 1.18/1 T/W ratio. No way in hell.

The hare trotting over to the start line then parking himself for the launch to watch was a nice touch.:rofl
"As drag races go, you will agree...this is quite a good one." With the classic sneer added for effect. :D
Cool vid.:aok
Thanks,
Sun

Why not?
It didn't look like the plane was going quite vertical, and a mile is around 6000 ft, which is somewhere around twice the turn circle of the plane at corner velocity. The plane appeared to be going relatively slowly at the top as well.
It appeared to perform as I'd expect for a modern fighter... That said, a clean -229 powered F-15E would have performed nearly identically. The takeoff roll of a clean -229 powered F-15E in afterburner is about 800 ft, and it has a thrust to weight quite a bit over 1-1.
Ironically, that's why you don't see clean -229 F-15Es making record breaking attempts or airshow demos... It's too close to the F-22 in acceleration, which might convince certain less knowledgeable people that the F-22 is not a leap ahead in overall performance.

Fun as heck to watch! Thx.

Anyone who has ever watched the Raptor demo team will have no doubt whatsoever of its pedigree as an advanced fighter.
