What size videocard do you need to run 1024 settings? I just installed a gforce 8500gt with 512mb and can only run 512 texture. When I change to 1024 I get a slight lag or frame freeze. Also is there certian performance settings to help a card run better for AH. Even now on 512 texture setting I start to loose frame rate after a few min. Frame rate starts at around 60 then gradually drops to about 25 to 30. Thanks for the help in advance<S>.

There are a lot of variables involved in that question.
Are you using any other video card settings, like AA (anti-aliasing) or AF (anisotropic filtering)?
What resolution are you runnin the game at?
How much system RAM does your computer have?
-
Im not sure what all of these do but my settings are as follows.
Anisotropic filtering 8x
Antialiasing-Gamma correction on
Antialiasing-mode Overide any app. setting
Antialiasing-Setting 8x
Antialiasing-Transparency Supersampling
Conformant texture clamp off
Error reporting on
Extension limit off
Force mimpmaps none
Mullti-display/mixed GPU Multiple display perf. mode
Texture filtering-A sample option off
Texture filtering-neg. LOD bias clamp
Texture filtering- quality High quality
I have the 1024x768 res. set and 2 gigs of ram with Vista32bit. The card I installed is a XFX Geforce 8500gt

Vista is buggy for gaming at best anyway, but thats where you should start.
- check the thread about "Vista Tips" Skuzzy has stickyed to trim out your system
- next, did you download the hires pack? if not, then you really aren't viewing 1024 textures, but are stretching the 512s
- If you still have mini stutters, start dropping out your antialiasing back from 8X. The smoothing really takes up video ram
-
change to single display unless ur multi monitors

I have read skuzzy thread and trimmed my settings a while back. I just downloaded the hires pack tonight and saved it to my HTC folder(is that the right place?). I also Changed my display to single(thanks TwinBoom). The game seemed to run better on 1024 with only a few freezes from time to time but I didnt notice a very big diff. in graphics. My frame rate averaged around 20 to 30. Thanks for the advice so far guys its getting better. Let me know if the hires pack was saved where it should be.

You don't just download the hi-res pack. It's a self-extracting executable. You have to install it. Before you do that, you won't see any difference between 512 and 1024, because there is no 1024 (and it defaults back to 512). You might notice a difference after installing it, and it won't hurt to install it, but if you decide to go back to 512 you don't need to "uninstall" it or anything. Simply set the texture resolution down to 512 (or lower) and you're back to where you originally were.

I could use more detials on how to install it correctly. Sorry im a little slow on some of that stuff :o.

Per the downloads page, THIS:
http://downloads1.hitechcreations.com/AHHIRES211.EXE
is the hi-res pack.
Save this file to your hard drive. Once done, double click the file. It is an executable. When done, delete said file if you wish (it is no longer needed). Start up AH. Choose 1024 texture size in the video settings. The cache will rebuild. Let it.

Thanks krusty I installed the hires pack with no problem :aok. The planes do seem to be sharper now and I am only having very slight stutters from time to time but I still have my antialiasing at 8x. Things look allot better. You guys have been a great help :salute. Any other advice or tips on my settings will be greatly appreciated. Im not sure about the res. Is 1024x768 the best for me. The monitor I use is a HP w2207. Its a 22" LCD and im not sure about the details.

Another good idea after the cache rebuild is to do a defrag. Actually whenever I change the video settings, I delete the cache and let it rebuild and then do a disk defragmentation. It seems to reduce the "rubber bullet" effect. I don't know if it really does but it just seems to.
All the Best...
