I finally finished my Ju-87 model!
Its a Junkers Ju87D of the 'Rumanian Air Force' of the 86 picaj, Grupal 6 picaj (thats what it said on the box)
but one problem, I CANT GET THE PICTURES ON THE FORUM!!! can someone help, prettyplease?

It's not a proper Stuka without a Volkswagon slung under it.......
Nice work though, I just "almost" finished a P-40B (need to put the decals on) and I have a 109F waiting in the wings. :aok

I always thought the Do-335 would be a great R/C model.
Are you building from plans or a kit? Gas or electric?

Good to see you're having fun with your models! That's the aim of the game, after all. I build models too and I don't care a great deal about building a super high detail model... That's not fun for me. I research the aircraft and try be as accurate as possible.... but at the same time I don't bust my arse adding super-fine detail that won't be appreciated in the end anyway. That's just my way of doing it though, the guys who put in the effort certainly create some very awe-inspiring pieces of work.
Gowan, try thinning your paints out a little and using less paint. It's better to do two very light coats rather than one heavy one. Be sure to leave 6-8 hours between coats too.
I've just built my last model that I painted by using brushes and this is how it turned out. I'm buying an airbrush this week and I'm going to give it a really light clear coat and then black-wash it for a more realistic finish.
Using thinner paints and light coats you can get something like this: (the low quality of this photo has washed out a lot of the detail but you get the general idea)

Also, I've just noticed, it looks like you've used a gloss and a semi-matte paint for the different colours. Try to stick to one finish between the different colours... eg: all matte.. all semi-matte or all gloss.... whichever you prefer.
I've found that these paints are the best out of the ones I've used. They also have a comprehensive RLM colour list, so you can just go through you model's intruction sheet and pick out the corresponding Luftwaffe colours.... Such as RLM 74, 75 and 76 in the case of my model.

They don't require any thinning at all for use with a brush and only a little for use with an airbrush as I understand it.... but I will find that out for myself shortly, I expect.
I'm currently building a 1/72 scale Ju 88 A5 that I'll be painting with an airbrush for the first time, so I'll get some pictures of that up if it turns out how I want it to.

Its a gas, 100cc engine in the front and a 26cc in the back

Model Masters makes acrylic paints too . Thats what I use. They dry faster though, so it's sometimes hard to brush paint with them.
Xasthur, you're going to love having an airbrush.

I used to use masking tape in the canopy framing. I would put tape to a bandaid box or some other tin box and then paint the tape before trimming thin strips with a metal edge and an exacto knife. You dont smudge canopies that way and if it doesnt come out right you can have a 'do-over'.

Nice job gowan, looks like your havin some real fun model building. If you get yourself one of those airbrush sets you'll really have a blast painting them.

I'm suprised no one has said anything yet but isn't it an AHII BBS requirement to post all model pics whilst on desplay on the washer or dryer....???

Hit walmart. They have cheap but decent starting airbrushes in the toy section of most stores.

It doesn't look bad. Could use a few tweaks, and I could give a few suggestions, but I think there's one thing that will most help you out in finishing models. It revolves around the thickness of your paint.
I remember when I painted the same way. I did a He111 but didn't have any good colors. I had to mix 'em myself, and didn't have any paint thinner (note: brush cleaner is not the same as paint thinner!!!! I learned this the very hard way back then). When you mix paints they get thicker, especially if you just have the 1/4 oz. Testors basic rainbow colors on hand. And when the paint is thicker you have to slather it on more to get an even coat. This can ruin the look of the model if you're not careful (I ruined many of mine).
However, I would suggest getting 2 things (maybe 3, depends on the paint type you use).
First: Get some "airbrush thinner" if you work with enamels. Or get some Tamiya acrylic paint thinner. This stuff has a strong smell so use it and put the cap back on fast (and work in a ventilated area! Always when working with paints/thinners!). The testors acryl thinner doesn't work so well on all paints.
Second: Get some pipettes, or eyedroppers, or whatever they're called. You can get 'em on the cheap at most hobby shops. Never dip your brush into the paint thinner. Never get paint thinner into the paint jar. EVER. It speeds up the congealment of the paint, and next time you open the jar it'll be solid and rubbery.
Use a dimple palate. Use your brush or a toothpick, or carefully pour a small amount into one of the paint dimples. Then use the eyedropper to drop a bit of thinner into it. Mix in the palate. If you need to add more paint, don't use the brush that you've been painting with (it has thinner on it!).
So basically the use of paint thinner will definitely help your overall finish of the model, and greatly helps with custom mixing also.
Also, if you don't mind a small tip: Watch where your paint goes. Look under your wings, on the flaps, and you'll see that the green from the upper surfaces spilled over the edge and onto the other side. If you use less paint on the brush while painting, this is less common, but still check the surfaces while they're still wet and it's much easier to clean up. Touch up the mistakes (once they are dry) so that they're not visible.
P.S. You missed a small spot behind the tail gunner, underneath the gun!
P.P.S. I use acryls and enamels interchangably. I have both thinners. You just can't mix 'em together, and have to make sure they dry before applying one over the other.

I use acrylic paints.You can thin them down with rubbing alcohol.Also you can wash it all up with water.You can find all you military colors in acrylic as well.Good to see everyone having some fun with the model building :aok

actually, i just special ordered a p-38 from my hobbystore, might be here in about a week, meantime, i need to decide whether to make a good model, or a S.A.P.P. good model, i got the lighter and hammer already
