Title: Be honest..
Post by: Wingnutt on March 08, 2008, 09:10:51 PM
for those of us who are 9 to 5 schleps..

Sometime in the near future, perhaps in 2 weeks,
You wake up and get ready to work, but you don't need to leave for 5 more minutes or so.
out of curiosity You check the AH website.  as the main page opens you see

Aces High II: Version 2.2  Released

2 part question..

1: would  you still go to work?

2: if not, what would You tell your boss?

Me: Ive got that bug going around..

Boss: what bug, there is no bug..

Me: well... it has to start somewhere.

I work 3rd shift 7:00pm - 7:00am, so I would still be able to play ar atleast download it.  I am not real big into calling in to work, I have a family to feed.

ummm.. yeah i would still go to work. In my opionion it would be completly irresponsible to stay home and proof that you have taken this game WAY to seriously. But thats just my opionion..I could be wrong. :aok

The little voice in my head goes:

"Let's see if an extra hour today will finish the project early"

"Marcus is slammed, lemme see if I can help him with his work load"

"I'm flippin' swamped and already leaving late and the VP of legal dumps 10 hours of work on me that they want done for their 9am court date tomorrow morning."

"I have some spare time today so <poof, dream's over, I get up and get ready for work>"

/and I like it this way
//yell at me, cuss me out, do anything but bore me

Me: "Hey Boss, i am having vision problems today, so i wont be into work today."
Boss: "Vison problems?"
Me: "Yes, i just cant see coming into work today, kthxbye."

 :)

Seriously though, no, i wouldnt be calling off for a game. Thats just beyond silly.

I'd still go to work as the thing downloads through my soda-straw dial-up connection.

If you're going to call in to work just to play cartoon airplanes, you've got serious problems.

Get a life, I haven't put off real world commitments for a game since I was a teenager. When your putting off work, friends, family for a game time for a reality check.

If you're going to call in to work just to play cartoon airplanes, you've got serious problems.

If your taking this thread that seriously you've got serious problems.

I usually do check the BBS before I go to work if I have time :lol
If I saw it, I'd be logging in on both computers (mine and Sarah's accounts) to let it download before I go..;)
I HAVE taken an afternoon off to fly in a snapshot event though. I even told my boss what I was going to do.
Sometimes it's nice to have a good boss.

I work at home, so unless there is something urgent going on the answering machine would be turned on and AH would get my attention for a few hours  ;)

well, since I'm a student I don't really have much choice.
Even if I did have a choice, if I did stay at home I'd get quite pissed off at myself and probably go into school a bit late

And anyway, school really isn't that bad (at least for me)

Of course.  They don't pay me the big bucks to stay home.  And let's face it - you dweebs will still be here when I get home.

The important question is "After promising wifey an evening, you get home to find Aces High 2.2 released... what do you do!? "

Remember, you probably can't claim your staying home sick in that one!

I'm retired now.My last job came with sick pay,so I could easily take the day off and be paid for it.However I wouldn't take time off to download a upgrade for AH.I needed the sick days I accumulated for more serious things like operations, and real sick days.

If you're going to call in to work just to play cartoon airplanes, you've got serious problems.

If you don't use your time off, you lose your time off. But I would go to work, then come home, lock the door and proceed to get pwn'ed.

I'd rather go to work , mostly cause i get paid to go . but also for my wierd wonderful projects .
I'm a Abrasive Waterjet operator and program and cut out parts for air planes , homes , commercial , etc.
the job is as fun as the game but with money LOL :rock

I figure I get 5 PAID sick days a year. If I don't use them I loose them. Since I never really call in sick because I'm sick I use those days for the odd day off.

So yeah I would probably call in. My boss is pretty cool so it wouldn't be a problem.

Well, that would depend on how much snow is on the ground or falling. Forty tons of truck and freight can be very dangerous on slippery roads.

"Boss, we've only got four trucks. I think loosing some income for one day is better than risking cutting our profits by 25% for who knows how long."
"Mawhah wah whawah?"
"I know I can handle it boss, but it's those nuts in Chicago on snow. They have a good chance of wipping right into the truck."
"Wha waa mwah."
"Thanks boss, see ya tommorrow."

as soon as you say you cannot take a day off when you want it you have to accept you are not free. obviously sometimes the bonus of losing that freedom is worthwhile. personaly i would tell my boss the truth but always do what i felt i had to do. to lie about sickness and get away with it can only bring sickness to the soul in the long run, karma and all that. its a shame because lying can be realy usefull.
