Post by: Masherbrum on March 09, 2008, 07:19:50 PM: The studio wouldn't let McQueen do the jump. Bud Ekins did, as they didn't want something catastrophic to happen to McQueen. McQueen did the rest of the riding in The Great Escape.

As for Bullitt. McQueen WAS thoroughly pissed off at Bud on this one (even though they were friends). I believe the quote is close to this: "You guys did it to me again!". Because Bud DID do the car chase scenes in Bullitt. Bud even dyed his hair blonde to match McQueen's.

I am a huge McQueen fan (also Bogart) for my young age of 34.

As Karaya noted, you are wrong, Bud Ekins did both stunts. McQueen did most of his stunts, but not those.

he only drove it for the airborne scenes........i believe steve mcqueen did a good portion of his own driving in that chase scene....which is still one of the best ever filmed....... :aok
