What is this plane. I saw pictures of it and apparantly they were in service. But I'm just basing this on the picture of the XP-75 and the P-75A.
I think it was the P-75 eagle. Was it used in WW2. It did have a prop. It looked like the P-51's half retarded brother.
-
Per this for what it is worth they never were used in combat. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/P-75_Eagle I have seen this plane at the air force museum.
-
Man it looks like the retarded son of a P-51 and a P-39 :rofl :rofl :rofl
P.S. I dont want it in the game. just wanted to know what it was.
-
Check out the p-66
Use by the chinese air force, looks to me like a under powered ungul winged f4u.
Kinda interesting history.

Those are some interesting sketches. Looks kind of like an F4U from the front, a FW from the top, and from the bottom shot it has wheels like a spit.

Well as ugly as it is i hope the 10 fifties would make up for it. :D Man, I would like to see a picture of that ugly thing shooting. :lol

Man it fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down :lol

IIRC nothing fought in WWII that wasn't on the boards before 1940. Pretty cool to think the late war monsters were designed in 1939...
-
In Francis Dean's book "America's Hundred Thousand" there is a section on unusual aircraft developed during WW II. The P-75 was a "hybrid" in every sense of the word: P-40 wing, Corsair landing gear, A-24 tail, twin Allison engines located behind the pilot and driving an extended propeller shaft ala the P-39.
It just doesn't get any weirder than that.
-
"German pilot 1 - what is that?"
"German pilot 2 - i dunno, but its on my six and its ugly..get it off.... getitoff getitoff!"
"German pilot 2 - *bails*"
"German pilot 1 - i think im gonna.."
"German pilot 2 - aggony... aggony, i got killed by THAT!?"
"German pilot 1 - *Pukes*"
"German pilot 1 - *bails*"
I wounder if anyone would have been shamed to be shot down by that.
"German commander - what was it?'
"German pilot 2 - ..it was a uh..a..uhm..f4u49...uh...24.. uhm..i don't know but it was ugly."
"German pilot 1 - Hold me, i'm scared.."
"German pilot 3 - *passes out with a small wimper*

it was suposed to escort b 29 from the marshal islands to japan and back the armament was 10 50cal 4 in the nose and 6 in the wings they stoped because they captured closer bases
-
Actually snowey, I'm thinking it was supposed to escort the B-36 if the war was going to go that much longer. Either that or the B-18. Both Long range bombers that didnt see bomber service during WW2. Both were made to fly across the atlantic and back easily if Britan was taken. So I'm just going with that.
-
it looks half retarded. :O
-
I remember seeing the P-75 on an episode of "Wings" years ago. They said it had horrible flying characteristics.

It looks' like it could be out-turned by the Queen Mary. And from what I've read, it wouldn't be any faster than a pony, or F4U, or a 190D-9.
