Title: GT-R Skyline
Post by: Bronk on March 10, 2008, 07:49:27 PM
So as not to completely hijack the other thread.
Mg1942 or 1k3 the GT-R Skyline is a nice piece of tech. Your posting it every chance you can remotely link to a thread topic is in a word, sickening.
Ohh that and if you turn off the comp controls for stability, traction, braking, ect, ect, ect. It wouldn't be all that impressive. This is just another attempt to replace talent with tech.

Bronk the Stig from Top Gear has let out a few comments ahead of Top Gear's airing of the episode that features the car, and one of them is that even with all the gadgets off (those you can turn off anyway, dunno how many that leaves), the car is no less good, both in performance and pleasure to drive.

No comment on everything else :D

Ahh but he is the stig and can drive at the edge without the comp controls. Lets see average Joe launch that thing to its advert 0-60 without the launch control. Would be funny to watch.

Bronk, .ignore works like a champ here in the forums.  You don't even have to re-ignore every time you log in.

Telling people not to post stuff they are interested in is pretty silly.  If you are made physically ill by the mention of the GT-R or by posts made by specific people, you may want to add them to your ignore list or maybe read a different forum.  I hear there are forums that NEVER discuss cars.  Or guns, or politics, or whatever else you might not like.  Because people aren't going to quit posting stuff they like here in the o-club just because you are twitchy about a specific subject.

Me, I can't get enough info about the GT-R.  I think it's nifty.

 :huh

There in lies the problem eagle. I don't want to ignore him, some of his interest are also mine. His need to link the GT-R to anything that resembles an auto related thread is however, annoying.
So here is a thread with GT-R in the subject let him go nuts.

Like I said nice piece of tech. I just don't need to see it linked to a thread just because someone typed the word "gasoline" in it.

Compare to cars that are STRICTLY for track such as GT3 RS, Viper ACR, Z06... of course the stock GT-R wouldn't be THAT impressive.

Just wait for the GT-R V-Spec...  V spec will shed more than 500lbs off the 4000lbs stock car,  bump its horsepower from 480 to 530, and slightly tune the suspension.  Chief director Mizuno said they will try to lap the V-Spec at "The Ring" under 7:25... targeting the Porsches GT and GT-2.

JDM cars could have ruled for the rest of the 1990s if it wasn't for the "Gentlemens Agreement" made by <<<insert whatever jpn car manufacturers you can think of>>> on limiting high performance cars to 280 hp.  The "Gentlemens Agreement" had upsides too.  Just look at the NSX, Skyline GT-R.  Honda and Nissan showed that you can keep up with the established premium badges with HALF the horsepower and displacement.

That's the thing.. I can't remember where I saw it, but the comment goes something like "the Porsche 9xx [the one that the GTR is aimed at] can be driven at 9/10ths by a pilot with enough know-how, but the GTR can go there too, with your grandma at the wheel."
Time will tell :)

GT-R might be awesome but end of the day it's still a Japanese car which like their bikes (though fast)means no soul. Any car, I'd take an Ascari A10.

Then again imagine number of bikes you could own for the price of an Ascari...And throw in a helicopter as well...  :D

?

This is not yet in USA but I can tell it does have soul.  It's 2 ways

1.  Godzilla on wheels (by sheer performance)
2.  Gundam on wheels (by its supposed fit & finish and its Gundam tactileness)

A very first sample of US/Canada spec GT-R was just tested at some California track last week.  It was pitted against the Corvette Z06 and it was... destroyed~

[EDIT] This is NOT an overstatement, I swear.

I prefer domestic stuff but I'd make an exception for this car.  I think it's specs and looks are terrific.  It's a little slow and the back seats need to go.  Otherwise, it's pretty darned nifty.

The Lotus Exige S would give this a run for it's money and the GT-R has 245 HP+ on it.

The Vette's "stock" have NEVER been good track (by track, I mean a Road Course with a lot of turns, like Laguna Seca) cars.   I'll never understand why some think they are.   Vipers aren't even that great "stock" on  the track either.    The Ford GT would give it a run for it's money as well on the track.

IMO, the Skyline will command too much money for it's worth.   This car will not do good in the US sales wise, supposedly it becomes available here in June.   I still say the Z-Tune was a better car than this.    But, that's just me.

it has ~$70k MSRP but check out the mark ups :noid

As for the cost of owning this, it shouldn't be a surprise.

One problem it has( and is shared by quite a few other cars' right now, as well) Is that it's being introduced right at the beginning of a recession here in the U.S.; Due to this, it might not have the sales' success necessary to keep it on the market. However, only time will tell.

For all it's high tech and capabilities I don't care for the looks of the car, it looks funny, cartoonish, like a mech warrior or some such. I am not a Porche fan either, in fact I don't think they are worth near what they sell for but it looks good compared to the GT-R. The Beemer looks good too. The Audi...

I agree with Gixer I suppose, it just doesn't seem to have much soul. I do hope those waiting with bated breath for it enjoy it after it gets here.

The looks?  I don't know.  I think in 20 years we'll look back at it with the same derision we give the Lamborghini Countach now.  I just can't see a single line, curve, or angle that makes me stop and look at it again.  Those headlights are the epitome of hideous.

I think the real problem here is, Mg1942, is that for 70k+, It doesn't look like much for the money. I'd be willing to bet that for less money, the same performance could be wrung from a 350Z with some tuner parts. I just don't think Nissan will sell enough of them to justify much production, especially right now.

Well ya, doesn't everyone?

A few methods work but I find a twinkie on a stick out front baits em in just fine.  Just don't use a spotlight at night cuz that's just not legal in some states.

And you lose a house.

Only hard-tuned R-32/33/34 GT-Rs can keep up with the new R-35 as seen here

I'd take MINE's GT-R over Z-Tune.  It's just as good as the NISMO Z-Tune. It's lightly tuned for reliability, response over big power, and cost a lot less.

I doubt us arm chair pilots can drive this car.  It even freaked out pro drivers :devil
