My plans for a new system are on the back burner for a while.
Right now I'm playing an an emachine with onboard graphics and figure anything would be an improvement.
I will soon have a PC available that I don't mind spending a few bucks on to run ah in the meantime. I already own it but the person who I lent it to will be gone soon.
It is an HP pavilion a1606n
Pentium D 2.7 ghz
1gig ram
Integrated video and audio.
I was thinking to upgrade to 2 gigs ram and a video card
I could buy a good nvidia card to use tenporarily and then reuse it on my future gaming sytem or I could get a cheaper one and then just leave it in when this system is relegated to general PC duties once my new rig is
built, but I don't know what card this system will support.
Any ideas?

Looks like your mobo supports pci-e 16x, I'd go with another gig of of ram and card similar to this. You will get excellent FPS in AH with this.
If you get this card, put a fan on it.

Thanks, motley!
Card seems to be recommended for Vista, any reason it wouldn't work with XP?

It'll work with XP..but if you are getting this exact card, point a extra case fan towards it. This one just has a heatsink.
