The 30 Second Club -- March 2008
Okay, we are 13 days into the month, but let's start this anyways. If we get less entries, so be it. Next month we'll start anew. Let's get at least a few of these done to pique interest, shall we!
The rules: Edit a video/film using AH footage, music, effects, whatever you want. It must be 30 seconds. This includes any fades to and from black.
You need to host the video so it can be viewed online or downloaded for viewing. No .AHF files. The video should be in a common format (avi, wmv, mpg, etc) so that most folks can view it without problems.
There are no rules on what kind of footage you can include, but note that 30 seconds is ample time to create a short story (ask anybody who's taken a 3D animation class!), and you are encouraged to come up with a story to tell in this time. Simply showing 30 seconds of a dogfight will work, but it might not be very entertaining.
Deadline is midnight the last day of the month.
Post your discussions and submissions in this thread!
P.S. I intend on entering this month. I need to learn how to use my editing software better and this is perfect for doing that!
-
I already have a film half done! Will have to finish it and cut it down to 30 secs and post it. What do we get if we win? :D
-
Fame! Glory! Your name in lights!

Your name will be sung in the forums and general chat for days!

Hehe it's the secret blackhole-propelled fighters of WWII!

Heh, not bad, but I think I'll add an addition to the rules. Let's see, how to phrase it to be most clear...
- The intent is to create new content in the month's time alotted for each deadline. Entries should be new creations, not previous releases. Naturally, if an entry has not been seen in completed form, it can be entered (say an entry from March isn't done, it could be finished and submitted for April's contest), but let us not abuse this good-faith rule to submit clips from many years back.
-
On another note, I've settled on the subject of mine, but I still need to decide what/how to tell it.
-
Will you continue to change the rules?
-
The original 30 second animated short contest (which inspired me) was meant to challenge animators to work on something new, rather than pull up something "from the archives."
I added this last rule only to keep in the spirit of the website that made me bring this up here. There is already another post, by donkey, for voting for pre-existing films. This activity will be for inspiring new films. If you prefer one over the other, you are covered on both fronts, just choose which suits you better and go there.

For those that don't know the above post is a troll, I'll answer anyways.

Don't be a tool. It's a legit question.
-
The framing of the question was unfair and antagonistic. I will edit my post, though, as I see you have edited yours.

The framing of the question was unfair and antagonistic.
You really make a poor victim.
-
"Are you just going to change the rules whenever you like?" given past comments about me you've made, I took it as antagonistic, and it implied I had a history of making and changing rules in contests to cater to myself, which was unfair.
Then editing it to be an inoccuous statement, after I reply, and then creating a new reply below worded so as to make me look bad? Regardless of intention, that's the way it looked.
I'm sorry. Let's leave it at that.
-
Krusty, I edited a typo. That is all.
-
You reworded it.
I'm curious why you posted it in the first place, though. Will you be participating in this month's contest?
EDIT: The more that join, the better!
-
I was thinking about it, but probably will not now.
-
Great a "Purse Fight" 30-second video...... :P
-
Don't look at me.
Back on track, my clip will be of a mossie fighting a 109g6. A few months old, the base .AHF is still interesting, short, and I have lots of options on how to make a film out of it.

OK now that I finished my 30.S.C. video I am in for this monthly challenge. Looks like we get some nice short films with lot's of new ideas in them. Maybe krusty can pin them on the first post.

reeb - Splitscreen (http://www.vimeo.com/820441)

I can't view any that require flash versions above 7, FYI. At home I might be able to, but when I'm at home I'm too busy to check the forums as often.
My work computer limits user access to installing software (it's an overall security issue).
If at all possible I'd like to request folks upload wmvs or something -- and that's not a rule just a personal preference as a viewer.
-
Forgive me if I miss any, it's an impressive list!
"Kill Shots" by bnasty (http://www.mediafire.com/?g0ntkmjzjnn)
"2 on 1" (second edit) by batfink/mechanic (http://www.freeroleentertainment.com/30sec2.wmv)
"Uberfinns" by JanneK (http://www.vimeo.com/833576)
"spit pilot in over his head" by reeb (http://www.vimeo.com/826845)
"P38" by ZoniX (http://www.vimeo.com/825149)
"Panic" by Niros (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XPX5u1GxdmY)
"Badlands Rider" by drkorf (http://korflab.ucdavis.edu/~ian/Media/BadlandsRider.mp4)
"Peashooters" by Krusty (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7mSG22EqiRw&fmt=6)
I think that's all of them. I worked my way up the forum from oldest thread to newest.

Are you going to do one before April 1st, or are you going to do one for the month of April?
I ask only because that's tomorrow :D
P.S. Eskimo, that's what I had in mind, yes. Midnight whatever your time is. I won't quibble with folks that stay up to midnight (or past?) to finish things off. Lord knows I've done that more than my fair share with video projects in the past.
-
Hmmm, what of this Krusy?
Don't let this idea die!
-
There's another thread for April :aok
