Title: Trojan Found in punkbuster Caution Gamers.
Post by: MerlinVI on March 13, 2008, 03:23:57 PM

Gentlemen,
During a routine scan using bitdefender it found a virus called trojan.peed.gen, On further investigation it appears as though it is indeed a genuine virus and not a false positive as can sometimes happen.

Mine was found in punkbuster in the main folder and in subsequent game folders on the pc so it may be prudent to scan your systems and make sure you are clear.

http://www.bitdefender.com/VIRUS-1000117-en--Trojan.Peed.Gen.html   use this link to find out more from bitdefender.com, From what they are saying you really dont want it on your system.
I hope this is of some assistance to anyone reading this post. :salute

Sounds more like bitdefender did false positive, unless you can shed light to how you "further investigated" it to be true. If there's no registry entry, hidden files or spamtastic traffic, it is false positive.

At least with earlier versions of Punkbuster, it would often cause AV programs to pop a virus detect alert warning.  Was just a false positive and which is one of the reasons why it's recommended to disable your virus checkers while using PB or any other anti-cheat detectors.

Does it matter what version of Punkbuster?  Im running an old version that came with the Novalogic Joint Ops game, which is a few years old.

I run Trend Micro and just did my weekly full system scan, no issues detected.

I've had punkbuster since getting Crysis when it came out, and NOD32 with daily updates since before Crysis, and never had any problem.

"Mom I swear the Trojan in my wallet wasn't mine...I was holding it for a friend."

Still to this day it doesn't sound right... what the Hell was I thinking?
