our squad was flying at 17 thousand feet and we couldnt soo our icons we were wondering why our distance was normally about 1000 to 0 feet away

I saw that too in the higher elevations. I believe it has something to do with the cloud layers and the color of your icons. I was able to see the guy I had flagged as my wingman (default color = white), but unable to see the icon of the folks who were colored yellow due to being on the same frequency. Makes little sense as if anything, I figured I would lose the wingman icon!
I just added it to my immersion factor ;)

At that altitude you were probably flying in the clouds. The clouds were supposed to be white but turned out to be grey and hard to distinguish from the fog. Need to work on the colors so you can actually spot the clouds and know when you are flying in them.

My squad experienced the same Prob. What's funny is my Icons are a bright blue. They would disappear from a 1000 all the way in to my prop, But when they hit 1.2k or further out from me they became crystal clear.

i could see them from below but not from level or above it was a nucence

ah, sometimes the icons will dissappear slowly then flying through clouds.
This isn't about the color of the icon at all.

Exact same here. A couple of times I actually started trying to out manuver my wingman thinking he was a P-40 closing in for the kill. It just added to the fun. :aok

Just think.........
The visibility you guys had was way better than the real thing :)

Actually, I agree it's not about the colors. In those particular cloud layers, it seemed that no icons were visible under 1k. It definitely was not a slowly disappearing thing though. I'm just glad we didn't run into a bunch of IJN up there.
BTW Kermit, our guys had an absolute blast diving out of the clouds playing calvary for that group you were with. We vectored to your calls the entire way. Nice traffic control work! :salute
