Post by: DaddyAck on March 17, 2008, 10:16:32 AM
Y'all watch this.

The only stupid part is tword the end talking about 20MM ammo, but for the most part a decent interview.

If you think the F4U has a bad rap for being hard to land the 109 is the king of the auger.

It's been posted before. There has been discussion before. I wouldn't set too much stock in it because he's not measuring things in controlled environments, and he's not flying them in wartime settings. His thoughts on the handling would be helpful to get a feel for a plane, but wouldn't be conclusive either way.

This probably isn't accurate info :o, but I remember (read or heard) from somewhere that more 109s were lost in landing accidents than in actual combat??

Doubt it myself, but what the heck ;)

During the Spain operation, bro :aok

If I remember it right, Spain was the proving ground for a lot of LW pilots, and a LOT of pilots wound up augering hard on landings.

The number of 109s lost in landing accidents is said to be ~1500. There must be many more damaged but repairable.

More planes of *any* type were lost in accidents than in actual combat during WW2.

I don't think we need to download almost half a meg every time he posts, though....

400,000 bytes for an avatar is ridiculous. The old forums limited it to 32kb.

I never can get used to seeing one of those bastardized Bf.109s with the upright V engine rather than the DB605.

I just love 109s, I do nto know when I formed this love exactly but I know it was when I was in childhood.  I remember watching old war documentaries with wide eyed wonder, and while they were mostly on American planes I was more so facinated with the long sleek and sexy silloette of the Bf.109s in the gun cam footage.  Someday I hope to actually see one in person and perhaps actually touch it and get to really embrace the experience and soak in all the Bf.109 goodness.  :rock

Right here with ya! But I think those Bouchons (sp) are sexy in their own right really.

I don't think so, the modified cowl for the english engine make it look like a 109 that got punched in the nose.  The Avia S-199s were still a defacement of the 109 but they atleast looked decent.

<----See, punched right in the schnozola.

lol. The Avia looks like it has really bad acne! I still think the Bouchon is somewhat better. But maybe its just me, I like the big noses. Bf-109E is my favorite of them all, lol.

I like the Bf.109E-7  :aok
But since we do not have that here, E-4 in good.
Any 109 really.  I loves em' all, especially when they
have skins for Jg.53 'Pik-As'
