Title: Hey Parolees
Post by: Airhead on March 18, 2008, 09:56:12 AM
Do you think we can keep it at a civil debate level? When Skuzzy has to edit threads from parolees, answer questions from members who want an ignore feature so they won't have to read the parolees, and generally has to go back to spending a disporportinate amount of time policing the boards, I have to believe he regrets letting the parolees back, and he does reserve the option to undo what he may believe was a mistake.

Personally I don't care if some of you get banned again- indeed, some of you richly deserve to get banned again, and you've been back for less than a week-  I just don't want you taking me down with you.

So try to keep it civil, K?

I don't think Skuzzy plans to ban everyone at once i'd like to think him a fairer man than that. Probably make his life a little easier. But then you'd need to check with him on that.

Yea seriously if i was Skuzzy i'd just either ban everybody or quit and throw away all forms of communication and move to Siberia and meditate for three years.

Wow i might just do that anyway. Maybe to Hawaii though... :D

I very much appreciate the O'Club.

There once was a time it had been taken away.

Adults disguised as children saw to it that the powers that be were SO frustrated with their actions to the point that the O'Club dissapeared one day.

We had no place to talk about movies, our favorite music, post photos of our children, and give opinions about who might win the Final Four...Super Bowl...or even boast about the fact that we had the BEST chili.

Overnight, it all dissapeared.

It took a long time for it to come back.

Please folks, and I include myself....we're simply guests here.

Let's work on being a better guests.

Some of the most hilarious posts ever have led to bannings. The Members Profiled post, so artfully executed by the mysterious LOL! just this past weekend being the latest example.

While abusive language and senseless insults should be curbed at all reasonable cost, I think that it is only fair to pay homage to those who have sacrificed themselves (and in certain cases, their shades accounts) for the benefit of this forum.

Yeah, apparently that was when Airhead(the OP), was banned, because thats where his posts end before the new board came online.

Since when has waving a red flag in front of a bull sacrifice?

Sacrifice:    the surrender or destruction of something prized or desirable for the sake of something considered as having a higher or more pressing claim.

An online identity is surrendered for the sake of getting some laughs, so it's a transaction, and thus, a sacrifice...

If the online identity in question was surrendered in the name of a senseless insult, or the posting of an offensive but otherwise irrelevant image, it would be, as you put it 'waving a flag in front of a bull'.

Either way, few members get banned for waving a flag in front of a bull. There is almost always at least some form of attempt at driving home some sort of point. Even if it appears senseless, most who get banned know what they risk when they make that final post. If they are motivated by anything other than the desire to get banned, it is a sacrifice.

(sigh)

here is something you could try. print out the copy of the posting rules. hang it beside your computer so that you can read it and what you type. make sure you don't break any rules before you post what you write. here is a link to the rules,
http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,228945.0.html
be sure to check the rules once in a while to see if any has changed and need to print an updated copy.
as for why some never seem to get banned, they didn't get reported.
if you feel a rule has been broken, there are several ways of reporting it. one way is listed in the rules. in the post is a link to report to moderator (not sure if it works).

that would be a question Skuzzy could answer.
does the report to moderator link in the posts actually work?

Oh yeah, most of the parolees richly deserved to be banned for their past transgressions---me, I didn't commit my crime in the O'Club, but rather in General Discussions.

I'd come home after drinking shots of Crown Royal half the night, turned on The O'Club and was greeted by a message saying The O'Club had been closed by Pyro, I think it was. I blinked, tried to fathom what was wrong, went onto General Discussions and asked if they'd at least archive The O'Club. I waited, didn't get an answer, and used a bit stronger language in reasking the question...hey Pyro, will you at least archive the damn things? In my drunken state I somehow felt they'd stolen my intellectual property, and I wasn't going to take that lying down...so I waited, asked the question again, got no response and after that it got real blurry- I made several more posts, each one progressively angrier, and I believe in my last post I made a few disparaging remarks about Texas, and about how some staff members appeared to be missing that all important 21st apendage, and how I was going to sue them for The O'Club archives, and yadda yadda yadda...and then I passed out.

I awoke the next morning, went into General Discussions and discovered I'd been declared PNG for my previous nights' posting spree. I also noticed my nine post rant took place over twenty two minutes and thirty three seconds, which shows just how slow the time goes by without The O'Club, especially when you're drunk, and all my posts took place at about 3:30 AM Texas time, so of course Pyro didn't answer...so anyway I got banned, but for me since there was no O'Club it was like being thrown out of your favorite bar the day it burns down so it was no big thing, until they brought it back.

I believe The O'Club was restored partly because they saw just how passionate I felt about the place, and they had to fear a general uprising might occur...so as far as I'm concerned sure, I deserved to be banned and I apologize now to them for my disparging remarks, but I was as much a political prisoner as anything else- a Nelson Mandella,or a Tommy Chong, if you will- rather than a common name calling, inciteful thug like others who were banned were.

Up until my ban 3500 posts with only one Skuzzification edit is testimony to my good manners, and for those of you who signed up while I was away you will soon find out just what a good citizen and all around nice guy I am.

I almost decided to not even read this post because i thought it might be someone trying to stir up the people that had been graciously given a second chance, or as some of you say, another rope. I can tell you exactly why i got banned. I played the game for quite a while one night, got mad and posted. :o That's not something you should do and i should have known better. Then when being warned i got mad all over again and posted an angry response, thus earning the ban. So a hard lesson learned there but it's a good rule to follow. Don't post when mad, drinking or just bored and trying to stir up trouble. Best thing you can do when upset because of the game is just log off and surf the web, play a video, or anything else but post here. The nice thing is my squad has a member only whine section that we can use to vent frustration and it really helps. We have yet to ban a squad member for abusing it.

Ledpig- If you had a product you were selling and a forum that was an enhancement for that product, and people were getting PO'd on your forums because they were getting flamed and were no longer buying your product, you sure would clean it up. If you want a forum where anything goes they're out there- however, this isn't one of them, so respect that and follow the rules.

Trax- You posted something entirely inappropiate and had your thread locked...are you saying that you don't get that little voice in the back of your head that tells you not to do something that might be wrong? C'mon, bud- I don't believe for a New York second you can't diferentiate between appropiate and inappropiate posting.

Diablo- Like many I had a shades, but rarely posted on it- I had it to have access to the search function, and discovered my parolee status while searching for the Chantelle Mallard thread. At first I thought Skuzzy was teasing us, but then Nuke posted so I knew it was for real.

Blue- All we could do was read the forums- no response, no search. You have no idea how many times I screamed out in frustration when someone would post something really, really stupid, and then others would agree with something that was really, really stupid...at one point I had a mini breakdown even, but that, a year at a Tibetan monestary and trying to herd my wife's cats has taught me patience.

To my fellow parolees- There were a couple of threads locked because of our actions...personally I don't care if you get banned again, but the threads that were locked were actually pretty intresting and had the promise of a good discussion, until you guys hopped in and ruined it.

Anyways I've said my piece. I intend to post in a civil manner and stay within the framework of the rules as I can make my point without namecalling and flaming, and I'm certain most of you parolees can too....and I've got a feeling that those of you who can't will be gone soon enough, and you'll have only yourself to blame.

There are many forums like that on the Internet, but they quickly become tedious and boring.

It's refreshing to be a member of a community that can actually, for the most part, have adult discussions from many different points of view.  It's not perfect but so far it's the best I've found.  Hats off to Skuzzy and crew for keeping it that way.

No I didn't have any voice saying not to post it, I had seen in on the major news networks, and even in People magazine, so I didn't think anything was wrong with it, but as I stated this is Skuzzy's forum and we are there guest so if he felt it was inappropriate I apologized, and will scrutinize my posts better in the future.  Believe me I enjoy being able to post on here, and would never do something to jeopardize that privilege, and hope to earn my way off probation. :)

Parolees: "No catch?"
Skuzzy: "Nope.  Here."
Parolees:  "Huh? Why the Ice skates?"
Skuzzy: "I'm just bored."

  :salute

Hats off to Skuzzy for that, cause i sure wouldn't want to do it. I'd just rather have people monitor themselves. And let the rest handle itself.
