Got to leave work early, woot.

The boss's words were something along the lines of "the only thing more dangerous than tornadoes and flash floods in Texas is a bunch of Joes driving in the rain at the same time.  So go home."  :)

Sitting in Lafayette Louisiana today. We've had wind gusts in excess of 63MPH. There is a tornado watch expected soon and the line of storms hasn't even arrived yet.  :O The RV has been rockin and rollin all day long and I wasn't doing anything to make that happen either.

The rain and thunderstorms aren't due until 2200 hours (CDST) or later.

We had some gusts hit 90MPH today and I have a small lake where my back yard used to be at the moment.  We had already had damage to the roof from hail and wind storms last month, and it is worse now.  Two of my exhaust turbines were blown off of the roof.  Pulled the shingles and nails right out of the roof.  Dunno where they landed.

Oh, you guys would love this. I have a tractor trailer tanker and a bulldozer stuck in my driveway about to turn over. Seems one of the mud tankers cut the turn into the driveway too sharp and ran the trailer halfway into the ditch about 3 feet below the drive. Now the truck is leaning about 50 degrees and it's wheels are about 2 feet in the air on the left side. So they went and got a dozer to pull him out. Now the dozer is high centered and they are waiting for another dozer and tanker so they can offload and a wrecker to keep it from turning over.  :rofl

Go take pictures, and make helpful comments like how you heard putting gravel or hay underneath the wheel would help.

Hehe, I already stirred up enough trouble down there. I asked them if they needed a good truck driver. Everybody but one guy thought it was funny. :devil

Just more proof that while Houston has to dodge the 'every 10 - 15 year hurricane', year in and year out Dallas has by far more deadly storms than Houston.  Ice storm, flash floods, tornado-spouting thunderstorms, sleet, ice, and hail.  Yep, that's Dallas.

Actually, there are parts of Harris county and surrounding counties that do get high water but the tropical storm Allison event was the first time downtown was underwater.  I'll still take a rising creek over what you guys get.

Our idiots think their cars walk on water.  Litterally.  80 mph on a highway with a standing half-inch of water.  "Hold my beer, watch this!"

Here in San Antonio we had what I can only describe as a "Dirty Rain"

The wind was blowin hard all day kicking up dust everywhere, then we had rain.  All our cars look like we went mudding in them.  THe car washes today are all packed!

I am Teh Ready. :)
It has risen landwise about 5 ft in the last 2 hours.
There is a small creek that empties into Tawakoni pretty close to the mouth of the Sabine.
It has a small boat ramp that just big enough to put in a shallow draft fishing boat when the lake is at the norm.
From there you go down the creek to the mouth into the lake.
When the spring rains come like this and it and Sabine are out of banks, it is a great place to go. Back off in the sticks on an FM road. At these times every farmer in two counties are congregated their  with their travel trailers, campers, etc. for setting trotlines and jug lines.
You can get SFed there in a hurry. :)

Those are generally 30" to 40" rains in a 3 day period.

The problem is most of Harris County is flat as a pool table. Nowhere for the water to go.

My mama always taught me that good things come from adversity if we put our faith in the Lord.
We couldn't see much good in the flood waters when they
were causing us to have to leave home,
But when the water went down, we found that it had washed a load of rich black bottom dirt across our land. The following year we had the best cotton crop we'd ever had.

I remember hearing:

How high's the water, mama?
Two feet high and risin'
How high's the water, papa?
Two feet high and risin'

We can make it to the road in a homemade boat
That's the only thing we got left that'll float
It's already over all the wheat and the oats,
Two feet high and risin'

How high's the water, mama?
Three feet high and risin'
How high's the water, papa?
Three feet high and risin'

Well, the hives are gone,
I've lost my bees
The chickens are sleepin'
In the willow trees
Cow's in water up past her knees,
Three feet high and risin'

How high's the water, mama?
Four feet high and risin'
How high's the water, papa?
Four feet high and risin'

Hey, come look through the window pane,
The bus is comin', gonna take us to the train
Looks like we'll be blessed with a little more rain,
4 feet high and risin'

How high's the water, mama?
Five feet high and risin'
How high's the water, papa?
Five feet high and risin'

Well, the rails are washed out north of town
We gotta head for higher ground
We can't come back till the water comes down,
Five feet high and risin'

Well, it's five feet high and risin'
