It’s been nearly a decade since I started playing this game. I’ve taken several year long breaks along the way. It seems this was a great time to come back with the release of this latest update.
I was lucky enough to be the writer of one of the first prime time reviews of Aces High back in 2000. Combatsim.com was getting a good 30 million hits per month and times were great. I still remember how much AH blew me us all out of our chairs there when I discovered it surfing one day while reading about Warbirds. http://www.combatsim.com/htm/feb00/aces-high.htm (http://www.combatsim.com/htm/feb00/aces-high.htm) is the original article complete with screenshots if you care to give it a quick read for a blast from the past.
While re reading my own work for the first time in years, I remember how we “broke” the big news that the P38 was being added, and how crazy the community went with the news on this BBS. I’m feeling the same waves and good vibrations today as I did back then. What a truly great, GREAT game we’re all blessed with. It’s easy to forget this when you let the little things nag at you, but seeing all the little things HTC has done with this update, the unmentionables if you will, such as the new destroyer guns to the TA152 getting it’s much awaited update, always make up for it.
I know I’m not going to be able to sleep a wink tonight as there is so much I want to explore. This brings me to my point.
Updates used to come so often back in the day, which is understandable as there were tons of aircraft that could be added, unlike the present where the lions share have representation. That said, the excitement I get with new updates is like crack for an addict for me ; I can’t get enough. I’d like nothing more than to see a new update such as this one every couple of months. Hell, I’ll even pay more money so HTC can give themselves a raise if that’s what it takes. This game has SO much potential - Dale and crew have created a monster really, as no matter how encompassing Aces seems to get, new doors swing open and the potential for new facets pop up everywhere. The new navy for example. It looks and feels so incredible now, that I’m sitting here dreaming of subs and battleships and a million ways the game could go with a huge naval component included.
I’m going back to Afghanistan in a month, and sure as hell hope our company will have some sort of Net solution set up, or I’m going to be one really pissed off gamer.
Thanks for all your hard work and dedication to your product HTC. It’s truly commendable in today’s age of crap first person shooters and console games.

Amen Brother,
When an update comes along it's like finding a five dollar (USD that is, I don't want to offend anyome) bill in from of a candy store :) I sure wish I had the smarts to help these updates come more often.
Everyone in the community reacts so well to any addition to the game it's seem's that the first day and a half after a version release is as good as the best played FSO you've ever flown in :)
The updates & CM team efforts keep us coming back year after year.

It's great to see these new 3d models, planes and vehicles and paint jobs, isn't it? Cockpits are looking great. <S>
Things have come a long way since these days...

Wow, for 2000, they had really good 3d graphics. combat flight simulator came out later and didnt have as good as that. <S> HTC you have gone a long way. Even since I started playing back in 05-06. Never thought when I started playing, I would see the P-39Q or D

Exactly Angels, that was what I was getting at. I hope people appreciate not only how far this game has come, but how groundbreaking it truly was back in the day. I still remember telling people about it and that it was less than 40mb to download....they would laugh, until they tried it. Then it was all they could talk about for days.

Been at this for almost four years, and still coming back for more punishment. :D
One thing I picked up on is the detail represented in the artwork. It's always improving. Example, the cockpit screenshot of the Spit then:(http://www.combatsim.com/htm/feb00/jpg2/zoom1b.jpg) vs. what you see in the game now. Damn fine work. :aok

That was exactly my feeling when I first saw the game. How good could a 40mb game really be......

Greetings,
I would just like to thank Hitech for not developing this game until I was safely out of college and securely employed. Now that I am in my 'retirement' years, I can 'fly' almost as much as I want. :D
