I have seen countless times a bunch of gvs sitting on a base with their engines running, scanning the countryside, while an enemy gv (sometimes an M3) pulls onto the base or up to the map room undetected.
So, my question is this:
How many of you use either headphones or have speakers situated in such a way that you can make use of the audio stereo image in locating the bad guys?
-
wrong idea srry
-
I absolutely rely on it. Even when attacking enemy bases I frequently stop and shut off my engine to scan not only visually but acoustically too.

Yep - me too Lusche....my point exactly. :aok
I suspect that many (new?) gv'ers aren't aware of how useful the audio is.

Or how much it distracts from us listening for enemy and hearing nothing but friendly GV's

Oh, heck. I sat in a gun and TOLD four people about the M3 hiding 200 meters away behind a hill and none of them did anything about it. Vox, room chat, country chat...they just blissfully sat on their thumbs.

i know i hate that too, people just sitting there with there engines running.

i use headphones, but to hear an enemy's engine or tracks, i need my engine to be shut down...and i have already turned up all external sounds, and turned down my own engine and track sounds........

my favorite is when sitting in a GV waiting for that tiger coming at you knowing your only chance is to spot him before he spots you.
And a bunch of friendlies suddenly start yakking on vox about non game related stuff and wont shut up so you can hear and locate the GV comming.

i've sat just inside the tree line quite a few times, listening to the enemy looking for me. they seem to kinda sorta have an idea where i'm at, but they're not sure. it's kinda funny when they're within 30 yards, you can see them through the trees, and they can't spot ya....you're looking round for others, then hear them fire up, and move...jump back in the gun, and whammo......they're gone!! :O :D
and being as i suck soooo very badly in GV's, that's the only way i get kills in em :rofl

u must be a Rook
...as a matter of fact, at the time I was...

I agree 100%, always people talking at worst possible time...my luck I guess. Lusche sometimes your so close you dont have time to .squelch multiple names before the enemy tank comes around the corner.

I have to use almost entirely the sounds ~ because my vision is like this ^^^ But I've never been able to do that with speakers... only with a headset.
Something's the matter with my sounds though... I can't hear planes when they're inbound until they're about 200 out (even then, I only hear a slight sputter)... I can only hear the planes AFTER they've shot the crap out of me and are outbound.

With regards to your sound does this help ? Right click the bell icon on you desk top. Click "open volume control" click "options" and tick anything that you feel is needed. Then move all the sliders to max like this screen shot.

TexasMom, Are all of your game sounds at the default levels, or have you adjusted some of them? It sounds to me like the problem might be there, but not sure because the only one I have ever adjusted is the air raid alarm (practically set to zero for sanity).

Thanks Lynx & Panzerr,
I did move my sound settings to where you recommended. I don't recall having previously made any changes, but I consider the computer to be one of those man-things that falls into my husband's realm of responsibility. I tell him it's broke, he fixes it. :aok
I think there's an improvement by making the changes you recommended, but will log on tonight after the TxLittleOnes go to sleep to really check it out. :)
I appreciate it!
