FSO is probably one of the best aspects of AH, it's very different from the flying done in the MA, in FSO you get 1 life so people tend to fly alot smarter, plus it's not just about racking up kills, it's about accomplishing the task your CiC (commander in charge) has assigned your squad.

I've never found anyone who started flying in a FSO and didn't have fun, if you've ever flown in a Scenario event in AH and enjoyed it, then you'll love FSO.  So either look into registering your squad to fly FSO, or find a squad who is already flying in FSO and ask to join them.  You can belong to one squad in the MA and belong to another that you just fly with in the SEA for FSO, so if you want to fly with a squad in FSO, but your squad doesn't, or hasn't yet signed up, you can send me or another FSO squad and ask to join them.

If you want to register your squad for FSO you'll have to wait until after this FSO is over to have your squad participate, but start the squad registration process now , the next one starts April 11th I believe, but you can find a spot on another squad to fly with tonight or next Friday until then.

My Squad, Clowns of Death has been in FSO ever since we were big enough to play.

I personally started in FSO in 2003 with ~~~Fate~~~ Squad... They showed me the ultimate evolution of AH, and when it came time for me to create Clowns, I did it knowing I was building an FSO squad.

If you have never played FSO, you have never played Aces High.

I used to up until 2 years ago.   But, I got tired of people showing "blatant disregard" of altitude restrictions.   Even worse, some squads constantly got the better details and funnier yet, would ignore their own flight orders.

Karaya --

Consider a retry. There was a time when such concerns had a few squads step out for a while, including the 332nd Flying Mongrels. Since we've returned, we've had nothing but positive experiences...and even though I'm primarily an MA player, the FSO experience has been great these last few months!

A particular strong point in the last several campaigns has been the incredible terrain and weather, that take you one step further in immersion.  Adding the dense cloud cover, unpredictable visibility, shifting "holes" as fronts move -- it FELT like fighting over the Baltic or the Aleutians. For me, FSOs provide the immersion of a full fledged Special Events Scenario without overdoing the competitive juices thing.

Well, I'm trying to get in through my friend H338, and soon all of RT will be in FSO. But if anyone wants me in their squad, SIGN ME UP. I dont wana miss the last 2 FSOs. Thats what I'm gonna have to miss in order to be in one  :frown:

Important Notes --

You CAN play even if you aren't in an FSO squad. To do this, you have to contact a participating squad and have them agree to take you for the FSO. (This has no effect on your MA squad affiliations.) I flew with several different squads in FSOs even back when I was a lone wolf, and then when I belonged to a non-FSO squad. It's a great way to have fun, and to meet new players.

BUT -- NO walk ons are allowed! You cannot show up the night of the FSO and participate.

All you have to do is plan ahead a little, and guests are welcome!

Just have a question about this FSO that is currently under way.  Why is the F4F included and the Ki-61?  IIRC, neither plane took part in the battle for the Aleutians.

Sadly i have no film of frame 1 an awsome time,
so heres a short pictorial of the last frame:

First interception, we are way outnumbered

Attack!

I make a run on a nice group of b5ns

A lucky b5n's .303 perices the cockpit glass and causes a pilot wound, forcing me to start heading home.

before leaveing the group i manage to single out and kill a lone b5n

The F4F actually was involved in the Aleutians and did shoot down enemy planes. There numbers were limited .. somewhere around 12 or so. The Aleutians theater had a hodge podge of aircraft.

Now as to why the Ki61, yes it historically was not there. However, for game balance reasons it has been included. Basically the Japanese had plans to expand their operations in the Aleutians and start working up the chain but these were abandoned a few months after Midway.

Also realize that we actually have more players involved than there were planes involved in the real campaign.

So the Aleutians to some extent is a what if event modelled on the historical campaign. The what if parts are what if the U.S. and Japanese poured more resouces into the event and contested it more than we did. Also the U.S. did have quite a few P38Gs active in the theater. As a designer I wanted to have some involved to give the flavor of that but the A6M2 is no real match for the P38G. So as a designer to balance things for game play I decided to only have a few P38Gs active (12) and then my logic is if the Japanese were really contesting the area and hoping to use it as a base for invading North America (it was a concern at the time), then it is logical to assume they could have put some of their more advance fighters into action there. In this case I am letting the Japanese have 12 (Ki61s).

As for the other planes .. Betties were active (so have the Ju88s subbing). F4Fs were active but withdrawn in the phase after Attu and Kiska failed and before the U.S. retook them. They were actually shipped off to the S.W. Pacific because they needed the F4Fs. P39Ds were actually withdrawn before the U.S. taking back Attu and Kiska mainly do to their tricycle landing gear not holding up well in the brutal Aleutian environment and their short range. With the bad weather conditions up there (which kept the fighting low to mid alt) getting lost in the fog was deadly, especially if low fuel.

B25s were active as was the A20, B26, B24 (not using because of game / design decisions).
