I've never seen Russian Jugs on the Interwebs before, but I suspect this won't be the last time.

Found them by accident while looking for any pictures of the 2 Land Lease P-38s we sent the Russkies. Not sure of the exact numbers of P-47s we sent to the USSR or if any of them actually saw any combat. Though, while not serving in front line units, the Land Lease P-47s were used in air defense units and the North Fleet. The first two P-47s are the ones that serviced in the North Fleet (winter 44-'45) and the other one I think was from one of the air defense units and the Soviets used the Jugs from 1944 to 1947. Couldn't find specific information as to which squadrons used them though.

We sent roughly 100 P47s. The Russians didn't like them...too big, too heavy, carried more ord than their bombers, great radio and transparencies, though. Used mostly in the northern fleet for long range recon work.
They're mentioned in a couple of my books on the Soviet Air Force and Lend Lease.

Do any of your books mention if they actually saw any combat?

Not any pictures, just some references to one being used for "entertainment" purposes.

I'll look again...nothing comes to mind. The A-20 saw combat service as a Lend-Lease attack aircraft, though. We need green skins on several more rides.

Here are a couple more Ack-Ack:

We have a Russian A20. It's called, quite plainly, VVS IIRC.

Commies aren't cool. :furious

Smile when you say that. Joe is watching.

I should be more gracious. Do you know ANYTHING about "commies" apart from the opinions of others?

Naturally I don't have my Lend-Lease fighter book, but I DID re-read bits of it. 194 P-47s made it to the Soviet Union, roughly split between -22 and -27 series IIRC (one razorback and one bubble top). They were used on a number of recon and strike missions whose results were not recorded, so there is some debate if they actually saw combat or not. In any event, they were used on combat missions.
The Brits also sent over a number of Mustangs (4 I believe). Other VVS aircraft that need skins include SpitV and IX. One of these days I'll try to have the book and my notebook open at the same time.

P38s!? I'm triple absolutely POSITIVE they saw combat, so skins are a MUST!!
Here's some more information Google brings:

3 P-47D-10-RE serials 42-75201 to 42-75203
100 P-47D-22-RE serials 42-2553975201 to 42-25638
50 P-47D-27-RE serials 42-27015 to 42-27064

P-38L-1 s/n 424384, 173 IAP, used for joy-riding.
---
I've seen other references to the Soviets re-building crashed P38s and flying them, so that's not hugely surprising. Having the P38L in 173IAP (for entertainment) is different, though.
Here's something that might be interesting..."Some photos available at the book on Russian - author Kotelnikov Vladimir - "Americans at Russia" - subname "Americans airplanes at Russia"". That would be worth a read (yes, I can read books "on" (in) Russian). I'll get the Wife-Ack to ask someone back home to try and get it for me.

I have a vision of a SAPP like P-38 except instead of a magarita mixer, it has a large Vodka dispenser.

So, when will we be getting them :aok

Wing tanks are for vodka. Have to keep up your stock of black bread and pickled herring, too.
Apparently they flew it around the airfield, did stunts, stupid SAPP tricks, and otherwise made a toy out of it. The REAL bummer is the utter lack of F4Us in green. Might have to make one anyway.

I did a google image search for "Russian Jugs"
Good times.
