Only in auto take-off.  manual take off requires some serious rudder, but is much smoother.

Take a 2 quart Rubbermaid container, fill it with 12 oz of Jose' Cuervo, 1 cup of fresh lime juice and 1 cup of Cointreau. Top with crushed ice and by the time you're at 3K, you're ready for a tasty adult beverage. Oh yeah, don;t forget the Kosher salt and a Martini glass.  :lol

Climb rate is decent.
Auto take off is wack. ;)

But im willing to bet HTC figured why hold on a release for a little bugged auto take off, everything else works.
And im sure we can wait a few weeks to a month for a fix, or they could recall everything and have us wait longer.
;)

You ignore it, it lifts off and goes away. What's the problem?

You don't need to use any rudder if you lock the tailwheel. Just 1/2 stick back and it locks when you are wheels down.

No tailwheel on the P39s.

No tailwheel on the P39s.
It still locks on takeoff when you half stick back, forgot it was a trike, but it still works

The plane wanders quite a bit on autotakeoff, which it does not do during taxiing or manual. Stick input turns autotakeoff off. Stick input can not be used to dampen the oscillating experienced only in autotakeoff.

Also, it doesn't seem to lock the nose gear either. The plane still hangs a hard left right off the runway, and the nose gear doesn't display any actual steering movements either way.

You are absolutely right, my apologies to the folks in this thread. I guess my brain isn't registering my rudder pedals anymore. I've done a lot of sorties with the p39 and the fact rudder was needed didn't click in my head until I tried to takeoff without. Again my apologies, I was 100% wrong.

Apply power slower instead of firewalling the damn thing. :)

What he said

Notice that on the offline practice missions, there is NO auto take off? I'd wager that means something...

What?! Freakin pansies!

Seriously though, it's pretty docile on a manual takeoff, even with a keyboard or twisty stick, just find it odd that it's squirrely on auto.

Amazes me that anyone would use auto-takeoff. <shrug>

Or to grab some more pizza and beer.

Exactly.......after 15 years I realized I really do know how to take off manually. So now I let the machine handle. Take over c0-pilot. I need some coffee. Now I suppose I'm bad if I use the auto-landing feature too? pffft   :noid

I just find it sort of ironic all the work that goes into making the flying experience as real as possible......then letting the computer do the take off. So shoot me.  :devil

The computer still does most of the work for you anyway. Think of all the procedures you dont have to go through to take off even in manual takeoff mode.

If I had it my way it would be even more realistic.
Carriers would have to turn into the wind to launch planes.
And there would be variable from moderate to severe cross winds even at runway level.
