Post by: Strip on March 22, 2008, 08:48:40 PM
Some bright new skins I am looking at....

I am really looking at the Blue 27 skin. Its a really loud skin and catches my eye.

Anyone care to comment on the authenticity of these profiles?

They as good as any to a new skinner.

We used to have the Green Camo one...before the redone LA7's...(#21)

I also like Blue 27

The first two look correct, but I doubt the last two are. The green scheme was applied to some La-5Fs but they changed to the grey colours around the time the La5FN came out. It is always possible it was repainted in the field but I seriously doubt it. Personally I would not trust any profile of an La as gospel and would always be looking for a scheme for which I had photographic evidence as backup.

As said by others IMO

The top one is a possible as is the 2nd. The third is a styliased rendition of kuzhebdubs white 27. I have this on my site also. It was basically drawn thus for post war publicity in the Soviet media. Infact White 27 had many "skins" post war as it travelled form one air show to the next all over Russia.

The last is totally inaccurate. Post war Czech aircraft rendered their La7's very dark olive (a Monotone of one of the  standard VVS colours) and latterly added some brown. However those colours seem to hark back to 1942/43.

The guards emblem seem small on the 1st one.

Have you seen the Red 14?

All red with a heart on the nose....I would love to do that one.

I cant see it being a wartime skin tho.

If anyone has comments on this one I would like to hear them. Going to research it and see if it actually saw use prior to the end of war.
