Is historical research on WWII planes, people, units, and related details addictive!
What a time sink...
Does anyone have links to start on mapping unit movements during WWII? LW specificaly, but anything that has references from AARs of allied air units flying against the LW in the last year of the war would be interesting too.
Thanks.

Web links to pages detailing the combats and retreats or advances of units in the last year of WWII, especialy luftwaffe (JG11, JG301 and JG152 specificaly), but also any that detailed the AARs of allied air units that encountered the luftwaffe (especialy those three aforementioned units), so that I could gather clues about what and where german planes and people were during that period.
I'm asking if anyone has some of these to share.

Moot, have you tried some of the books from Osprey? They are well written for those that want the particulars on different JGs. Also I know there is a book put out on Jg.53 available from online book sellers.

I'll have a look at those, thanks. The thing is that I'd like to have info on late war events in JG11 and JG301 soon enough (ideal thru the web) that I could get started on a few Ta152 skins asap. I'm way out on the opposite side of the planet from the USA, and it looks like the postal service here has lost one more package (the LW Im Focus issue with a new 152 profile in it) from overseas.
There's a number of inconsistencies that will probably help the skins get accepted, if I can resolve them before finishing and submitting the skins.

Moot, check out osprey's book on the defence of the riech. I know they have lots of pictures in color to reference for skins. I have found much info in these books, as I find myself now reading up on the 109 aces of the russian front. one would think that JG.301 would be covered in that book, though most seem to be aircraft specific so look for Fw.190 defence of the riech or something along those lines.

A good place to start, with excellent free resources is the AFHRA server.
Use this link: http://www.au.af.mil/au/afhra/numbered_studies/studies4.asp (http://www.au.af.mil/au/afhra/numbered_studies/studies4.asp)
Scroll down the page and you'll find some detailed, extensive studies on Luftwaffe operations in PDF format. You can download all of them and have the basis for some fun reading and researching.
The base URL is: http://www.au.af.mil/au/afhra/numbered_studies/studiesintro.asp (http://www.au.af.mil/au/afhra/numbered_studies/studiesintro.asp)
Have fun!
My regards,
Widewing

Just wait til you start buying books on the subject. Web is fin, but having the book in hand is much better. Some of the LW unit history stuff is massive and there is a ton of it out there.
And it is addicting. Mine goes back about 40 years now. Great American Fighter Pilots of World War 2 when I was in 2nd grade was the catalyst. It's been down hill ever since :)

www.ww2.dk lists bases used by each German squadron, as well as planes available each months for the later part of the war.

Thanks Widewing, Snefens. :)
Guppy, it really is, but I'm a little broke for now, and on an island at the opposite end of the world where the shipping takes forever (3-6 weeks); if it doesn't get lost in transit. That's happened two times already and looks like it's happened again with a luftwaffe im focus issue.. So I'm not going to risk it with some nice hardbacks yet :)
I think I might try to buy them delivered to family in the US and have them ship it to me, insured.

What are you looking for Moot? I have tons of stiff that I put together for the various scenarios and events for the games I play.
If you had something specific you wanted to know just let me know. If its just LW in general then the link Snefens provided will is as best you will find on the net.
