Title: Smoke Free
Post by: WMLute on March 24, 2008, 12:23:34 AM
I'm moving to a new city and also on a little mini-vacation.  I decided to use this time to quit smoking.  I smoked roughly a pack a day for two decades.

Last cigarette I had was Last Tue. afternoon and so far it has been pretty easy.  The first couple nights were rough, but around day four it got much easier.  I had to rewash all the clothes I brought with me as they reeked of smoke.

Now when I am near a smoker I am disgusted.  I am ashamed that I walked around this planet for 20 years smelling like that.

The REAL test is in a day or so when I get on the road again.

Driving cross country w/o smoking will be a real challenge

Wish me luck.

Good luck WMLute and Elfie. My Father was the Maintenance Manager of Roswell Park cancer research center here and at a young age when at work with him I'd see guys who had their lower jaw removed due to cancer. Many of them still had a butt in their trach hole and were still smoking. After getting kicked out of college, for the second time , I bought a pack and got sick to my stomach, never tried it again.

Lute....same here, except I used to be a 2/3 pack a day smoker.

I quit 6 months ago.

Get all the help you can bro (I used the patch).

When things get tough...remember all the folks (like the ones on this thread) who are cheering you on.

YOU CAN DO IT!

lazs

My sister, who was an occasional/social smoker, just had her second Cancer scare (we'll know this week if the surgery got it all) and I decided it was "time" for me to quit.  I had been thinking how great it would be to quit for a couple years now anyway.

It's been a week, and only "kinda" miss it.  Last night I coughed and took a deep breath and felt a section of my lungs I prob. have not had access to for years and years.  It is amazing how much more energy I have.

Flying...

Not smoking while flying Aces High is the toughest habit for me to break.  That "see a dot you know is a con and you are about to fight 'em" cig. is a tough one to let go of.

You can do it dude!!!!

BTW: What do you plan to do with all that money you are saving?  (Carton = $25 to $40 bucks each)...we can be talking $100 to $300 a month depending on how much you used to smoke.

I am on day 9.

I'm not a quitter, I just ran out of smokes 9 days ago and havent gotten any since.

I'm also using chantix, so I'm kinda cheating.

I had the same experience. On day 7 I wanted one SOOO bad. So I bummed one and lit up. GAWD! That thing was so disgusting. The way it smelled, the way it tasted. I cant believe I smoked for 20 years ... Y E A R S! After about 2 puffs I tossed it out. nasty.

Anyway, good luck Lute & Elfie. The future is starting to smell better already.

i quit in dec 2005 and gained 50 lbs, untill last year in july when i start smoking again, and now i lost 40 lbs, smoking kills my appetite . Babby carrots did help me quit smoking, i used to eat 2-3 bags /day , also A vitamines improved my eyesight , i could see ZooZoo hiding in m3 half sector away and cigarette butts from half a mile

Keep it up Lute,

In 12 days I will have quit for a year after smoking for more than 40. I was down to about a pack a day but with the help of chantix I have made it without too much trouble.

Congrats and here's hoping you keep quitting.
