Title: weather
Post by: redman555 on March 24, 2008, 12:56:53 PM
Ya, i know it would cause alot of lagg and stuff, but still, i think it would b cool if it could accually rain, and snow, and stuff, and like if its really cold out, u gotta let your engine run for a bit to heat up, and like when your takeing off, if theres snow or water on runway u slip alittle, idk, just think it make game more fun  :D ( not that its not already, best game i ever played )

In WWII planes didn't fly in crappy weather, they were grounded. Heavy rain=grounded. Snow=grounded. Heavy winds=grounded.  Back then there was no such thing as an "all weather" fighter or bomber.

Weather played such a huge role in WWII due to it's grounding of the air forces at the time. Battle of the bulge is a good case in point. The Germans launched their ground attack during bad weather just so the allied air forces couldn't interfere.

An online flight sim in which you couldn't fly? That's a brilliant idea, really. It's absolute genius.

Weather effects don't have to effect the entire map... Maybe have one arena where the weather is turned on and the other in perma perfect weather like we "enjoy" now.

Might be an interesting idea in AvA.  A way to semi focus the fighting area.

BigBob i couldn't agree with you more, I also brought this up a while back and got bashed just the way you are.  See the problem is they aren't comprhending your post, I for one didn't read that you would like drastic adverse weather like tornados or hurricanes, white outs or monsoons.  I'm pretty sure you were you meant a little inclement weather to spice things up.  Some full blown clouds here and there to spice up the dogfighting.  And I am positive that WWII wasn't only fought in good weather.  Some folks just like to play on the easy setting though.

Let's not confuse a few clouds with extreme cold, wind, and accumulating rain or snow, which you seem to be doing.

The forecast for tonight calls for mostly Spits and La-7s, with widely scattered 109s throughout the night.

Besides your atrostious spelling, it would make things more interesting.  But,  they grounded all aircraft when the weather got tough.

No I did not confuse anything with extreme cold, or wind, or accumulating rain or snow.  Reread my post again, don't think I metioned any of that.  I said a little inclement weather and real clouds, not the see through haze that we have.  Some wind would be nice to.

Note, reread last sentence I DID NOT SAY TORNADO, I said a little wind.

note that the snow is on the ground, not falling. snow on the ground wont have any impact on your planes ability to fly, assuming you shoveled the runway/dirt strip off.

I think the wind should be enabled (game already fully supports it, its just set to 0)  nothing wild, perhaps a 5mph ground wind tapering to 25mph at 25,000 and above.

not totally realistic, but more realistic than 0 wind at all alts at all times.

When you are dropping from 500ft a little wind wouldn't do anything  :D

Redman...

Your request for localized weather is a valid one. Don't let everyone here get you down.

A while back there were quite a few people asking for fog at the ports. So, I gave them fog at 3 out of 6 ports on a map. At first just about everyone was very pleased with it. Then many of the nay-sayers started bashing it.... "I can't see the carrier"..."I can't see the GVs"...."I can't see the guns"..."I can't bomb"..."I get low frame rates". Well DUH! That's what fog does. If you don't like it, there are other bases to fight at.

Anyway, idea bashing seems to be a way of life around here. Anything that adds to the immersion in the game will be bashed by someone for some reason.

I do remember some fog at some ports, it was great, made things tough, definatly had trouble finding carrier.  But it added a touch of realism.  In real life conditions aren't always optimal.  Besides that you could use the fog to sneak bombers in on the deack.   :rock

And the stock reply to this will be "This isn't real life, it's a game". ;)

You bet it is, and every one wants the FMs to be as realistic as posible, which will only happen with a little bit of a weather factor.  It seems to me like there are just to many people who lack imagination though.  It is fun the way it is and if people don't want any more challenge then fine. :aok

C'mon, I Know (From FSX) Falling Matter Is Not Fun In Flight Sims, It Looks Like Star Wars, With More Casualties. :lol

But Why Not Ad Spotted Fog And Thick Clouds? You Don't Need Preciptation, Just The Air Change Color (ie. Gray=Rain, White= Snow/Hail, Brown-Ish= Sand Storm/Crappy Day, Etc)
