Title: Some New Off-Line Missions
Post by: Baumer on March 25, 2008, 02:21:08 PM
I've been working on editing the off-line missions and have completed a few. I've been able to change the planes and set them up with a wingman so there all 2 v 2. There lot's of fun and very challenging.

The Missions-
CowboysConundrum- 2 P-40Es v 2 Bf 109E-4s
DaddogsDilemma-  2 P-38Js v 2 Ki-84s
EarthdogsEscapade- 2 Spit VIIIs v 2 Bf 109K-4s
GhosthsGambit-  2 D3As v 2 P-40Bs
MorfiendsMayhem- 2 Mosquito's v 2 Fw 190A-8
OptikersObstacle- 2 F4U-1Ds v 2 N1K2s
RowdysRevenge- 2 F4Fs v 2 A6M2s
TeeerexsTemerity- 2 P-51Ds v 2 Fw 190D-9s

They are located in the following link-
http://trainers.hitechcreations.com/files/ghosth/missions.zip (http://trainers.hitechcreations.com/files/ghosth/missions.zip)

Just extract them and save to the "offmiss" folder in AH2

A couple of important notes:
1) They are only available on the ndisles map
2) If you have changed the country rotation you may be shot when starting the mission. Make sure field A1 is set as Bishop
3) When taking off, don't worry about your wingman, just proceed as the LEAD directs you and the wingman will "warp" to catch up when you jump to the engagement area.

Please feel free to send me any questions, thanks.

Good Luck

I've flown a couple of these and they can be real hair raisers!

Baumer also labeled them by plane, so you can see which you'll be flying.

Easiest one is probably Optikers Obsticle, flying from the n1k side.
If you want a real challenge fly it as the F4u-1d.

Overall these are nicely balanced missions that will test your skills.
AI seems to be pretty susceptible to any good overshoot setup.
With Lag roll or murdr's barrel roll defense working wonderfully vs the AI.
And of course don't fly too close on the first merge or they will HO.
And collisions are possible also.

Awesome job putting those together Baumer.  <S>

I just tried flying the Spitfire VIII one (EarthdogsEscapade) and it didn't give me any warp.  Also, I never saw any wingmen.  When I finally found the two 109s, they reacted once I was within 2k, they did a Split-S and then as I turned around myself, they vanished and I never saw them again.

I also tried the Mosquito one, but I never saw any wingman, nor did I get warped, but I had to go and study before I could fly towards the where the enemies would be.

I've had similar problems frequently when I've been editing the missions, in this thread:

Did you follow the directions that the "LEAD" gave you? normally you need to take a heading of 180 (due South) and get to 250mph (harder in the slow planes) then climb to 500 feet. The 2 opposing planes will be right on top of each other until you get close, I usually get a little horizontal seperation and nose down a bit for the merge, just enough to avoid the HO shot. Then if you Immelmann they will usually split up.

The not warping to the engagement area is a bug I've seen in the default oneonone.mis mission. If you look closely when you take off, there will be no messages from "LEAD" about headings or directions. When this happens, you need to log out of AH2 then restart it, go on-line (like into the TA for a second) then you can go back off-line and the missions will work fine.

The wingman are in all the files and have been tested by 2 different people. The normal behavior is for the wingman to drop down and back when you warp to the engagement area. I think this is related the above bug. I have seen the wingman for a split second and then he disappears.

Haven't tried that yet.  My internet's a bit screwy when it comes to games recently, but I'll give it a go.

i'll d/l them tonight......but i've noticed that when i merge the pony, he always rolls inverted as we pass..i don't exactly understand why though. i've never seen a live pilot do this when mergingit's always either a HO attempt or an awsome fight).

It would be nice if we had one with a bomber setup eather were we could learn to gun from bombers or attack them a couple of flights of bombers and some wingmen would do. Im not in a hurry for them just an idea. :salute

Red he's working on that, but is waiting for an answer from HTC on how to make the bombers hold a course. As it is now they try to dogfight with you.

Thanks,
I hope to be adding more soon. I'd really like to add the bombers red26 that's what I'm working on now. Also I'd like to add some GV missions, like Werbilwind/Ostiwind/M-16 vs. Jabo's. That would be good practice as well, I think.

I'll post more as I get them done.

Thanks,
Baumer

Great missions!

I actually thought the F4U1-D mission was easy as the hog.

The other ones aren't simple by any sense of the word, though.

Great job on these!  Loads of fun! :rock

Fianna that seems to happen sometimes if you change missions. Quit offline, go online to arena select screen. Then exit out and try offline again. Seems to clear it for some reason. Also I know baumer now that he has the editor is cleaning up and fixing a lot of the missions. Look for changes in the days to come.

The mission editor is out for beta testing. It's available in the mission editor forum, just below the terrain editor forum.

Yeah, it's a bit cumbersome to have to quit the software, start the software, log on to the TA, quit the TA, go offline, reset A1 at Bishop, then select a mission....

The missions are fun, but the AI is hopelessly inept. Though inept, it seems that AI aircraft have no G-lock issues, turning at 7+ g while I'm in a lag pursuit pulling near G-lock just to stay behind the 9-3 line. But, eventually the fight gets slower and the AI is quickly fodder.

Nonetheless, my thanks to Baumer for constructing the missions. I appreciate his time and effort.

My regards,

Widewing

I generated a couple of missions using the HTC baseline setup.

Stuka Nightmare is a 6 vs 1 fight. A lone Soviet P-39Q engages 6 Stukas.

This one can get very busy if you stay in the crowd.. Good for building SA skills.

Widewing,  I created a Spit 5 Vs. hurri2 and it is the hardest one I have flown.  It seems to be better with turners then those requiring E management.  I actually have not been able to beat this one. Not saying much though :D

The AI is inept, but they fly super aircraft. I had a Ju 88 follow me down in a dive at 452 mph!!! I have film of this stuff. So, I took the JU-88 offline and spawned from a 30k field. I rolled into a dive and reached 583 mph TAS (about 470 mph IAS) at 12k before anything failed.

It's a good thing that the AI is easily baffled and have miserable gunnery.

I'm not very savvy with the computer... how do I save the code from your link into the proper file so that AH can read it?

question? when i click on the link here, it doesn't give me an option to save it..but rather it gives ma about a page of code? do i just copy/paste this into the mission folder? the ones that Baumer made were in a file that i had to d/l then unzip, and save to the mission folder.

thanks!!

Cap, make sure your arena settings are to default, that you are a bishop, that field A1 is bishop, and A22 is knight.  I had same problem and that fixed it, thanks to Baumer's help.
