For a few planes you have two dates but no indication of theater:

i.e. F4U-1C   [8-43,4-45]

What does the two dates mean in this case?

I think 8/43 would be development, 4/45 would be actual deployment. The initial run of F4U-1Cs were pulled from assembly lines for the 1A for testing with the 20mm.

Thanks!  Excellent list.

A question:  Some planes have a date listed for initial deployment that is earlier than the year they are categorized in (such as P-39D, initial deployment in 10-41 (ET), but listed as a 1942 plane).  Should they be in another year category?

My guess is one is the year they were first released to pilots, and the second was when they were first deployed in combat.

IE, USN/MC squadrons first received Corsairs in the fall of 1942, but she didn't see deployment in the warzone until February 1943.

Has to be first combat as the D3A1 entered service in 1937 and is listed here as 7-40.

190D-9 should be bumped up to 11/1944 or 10/1944.

Dortenmann had 3 kills in a D-9 in the first week of November 1944, and it's possible that kills were made by other pilots before then. III/JG54 was operational with D-9s in October.

The Fw 190 A-5 date is wrong, it should be February 1943. JG26 received several of them in 2/43 and 3/43 although other units may have gotten them later.

The first 83 Fw 190 A-8 were built in March 1944 and about 60 of them arrived at JG26 in April 1944.

III./JG54 received substantial numbers of Fw 190 D-9 in late September/October 1944

My understanding is the dates are based on a squadron strength (12), in theater...not a handfull of pre-delivery types, or prototypes.

That is correct Squire.  Basically the operational date - or the date it was being serviced/used in the field.

If so, some dates are off by a lot.  Does really matter though as they are pre-WWII.

Wrong.

At the boost levels in the game it was "available" for deployment at the end of December 1944.
If anything it should be pushed to January 1945 which would more likely be actual deployment.

What about the La-5FN and La-7 dates above (3-43 and 6-44)? The performance of both of those planes we have in game was not reached until months after those dates. Just out of curiosity when was the Spit XIV with 2x.50" instead of the 4x.303" in combat? Was it 5-44 or later? I thought it was summer of 1944, but I'm not sure which is why I'm asking. I'm sure you can find a lot of examples if you spent enough time looking. We don't have earlier versions of many of the models in the game, so going by what seems to be the precedent in the list above 11-44 is reasonable for the Dora.

Only a handful of Spit XIV's had "c" wings.  Both "e" and "c" wings went into service at the same time.  Remember, the first squadron to go active with the Mk XIV was 610 on January 10th, 1944.
