Title: Comp crashes half the time when playing Aces High

Hello I have developed this problem over the past week. Each time requires me to restart the comp from the button on the front. I built this machine a bit over a year ago and it always ran great with the nvidia 7950 card I had in it... I usually fly on a projector and when it developed a problem it zapped my 7950 causing it to quit functioning. I then bought an ati 2600 512mb card while I save up for another nvidia card. I properly uninstalled the nvidia drivers and installed the ATI drivers... now 1 times out of 3 the game will crash as soon as I enter an arena... 1 times out of 4 or so when I spawn in after 20 seconds and pretty much every time I try to talk on VOX. I really dont know what the problem is. Anyone?

it could be the ATI card,  had same problems once in awile with my old ATI card and that problem stopped with this new GeForce 7600 card.

since the new patch tho ive had 4 or 5 game crashes so its hard to pin the problem on a vid card at the moment.

When you say you properly uninstalled the drivers, would you mind describing how you accomplished that?

Driver cleaner pro... I wiped all the nvidia stuff and made sure there wasnt a trace left anywhere on the comp. I then restarted and installed the ATI drivers... My other apps seem to work fine. Just Aces High seems to have an unpredictability to it.

the longer underlying problem seems to be the use of VOX crash... As soon as I let go of the button I get a stutter... if there are more than 3 people around I get a total computer lock up. The Load in crash seems to be the same... I just never had it until I swapped the video card. It could also be the new patch as I got the new video card on the day it came out. I am using an old old basic soundcard.

Hmm,..normally that implies there is more than one active sound card in the computer.

thats strange... I blew out the onboard sound ages ago and have reformatted since then... installed only the drivers for the new card and no problems anywhere else. Could AH be picking up my onboard sound?

Check DXDIAG and make sure there is only one sound tab.

Aces High II is stuck with whatever Windows will give us.  DXDIAG will tell you what DirecX is going to give Aces High II to work with.

Maybe I am taking this wrong, but you seem to sepak of VOX crash like it is some type of separate application.  I assumed it was not, but thought I had better ask rather than assume.

Need to see the DXDIAG output.

Nope I am talking about only in game vox... other apps like vent work fine, but I dont have them open when AH is running.

Ok... Should I just copy and paste it into here? Thanks for the help on this.

Are you running any anti-virus or other security programs?

Try removing the following folders from the Aces High II installation directory;  cache, skins, squads

Before restarting the game, make sure no anti-virus programs or securoty programs are running.  Allow the cache to be rebuilt without any type of interruption.

did that... seemed to help a bunch with the load stuff! I disabled skin downloading in back round... before if i got in I would get a bout a minute of 7 fps then it would go up to my refresh rate of 60 after that... it was at 60 right away after load this time. I went on the runway and tested vox... got a stutter every time I depressed and let go of the button... range or channel 5.

woops just got the crash again and had to restart... I notice it will load fine if I dont move the mouse within the first couple seconds of entering the game... if I move mouse it crashes every single time.

its weird... when i press talk key mem usage for ram and vid card stays same but FPS drops to 1. if I press it repeatedly it will stay at 1 fps until it crashes.

                         Just wondering but did you try a simply re-install of the game? I was having a lot of crashes the other day, out of the blue, and I uninstalled the game and the downloaded the new version again. So far no problems.

I have the same proablem.  The video and sound randomly freeze the computer to the point that only powering off will help. It runs fine for a while, then simply stops, the sound keeps repeating, and nothing responds.

tried reinstall of complete game... nothing  :( still get crash.
