Title: Marky-Mark
Post by: rpm on March 28, 2008, 04:53:45 AM
What is wrong with me? I can't help myself from liking Mark Wahlberg movies.

He's not a great actor. He falls somewhere in the Kevin Costner range of playing himself over and over. His range is more narrow than the gap in a gnat's butt. But Lord help me, I really like his movies. Boogie Nights, Three Kings, The Yards, The Big Hit, Invincible. He's done a great job as producer as well with Entourage and In Treatment.

Don't forget Rock Star.

In a metal mood indeed.

He is far from the worst of the B actors thats for sure. He played well in Three Kings.

I'm watching Invincible for the umpteenth time and I hate The Iggles. Really, I do... but I'm hooked on this flick.

I think it's more of the underdog that pulls it off.

Papale at the 40. He's at the 30, the 20, the 10...

You know, the only movie I've seen him in where I thought he was out of his acting league was in The Departed.  To me you could really tell he was intimidated by the actors around him.  He didn't seem his usual cocky, confident self.

Once he was finally a grown up, he's great.  :aok
Don't forget Perfect Storm.

I believe it was Donny that was in "The Departed".  I think he's a better actor than Marky Mark, but I like Mark too.  Though honestly I think it's more because I'd rather have them in movies than making albums :lol

It was Mark in the departed - and he was fine....he wasn't acting intimidated - he was one of the better ones

even tho he is a little tiny guy like the majority of the new actors..

He plays manly a lot better.   he pulls it off better than say decrapio or that damon guy.

My girlfriend was telling me during our viewing of "the departed" that they were not that tiny...  I told her.. "see that gun he is holding?  that great big huge cannon?... thats a walther ppk.. a tiny little gun."

She seemed doubtful so I paused it and got one out of the safe.. a stainless interarms one.. I could palm it like some cheap magician.  it was positively tiny in my hand.  In most guys hands.

I always found it funny, how the celebrities and people we idolize are actually rather short.

I bumped into Mark Wahlberg at the Roxy in '92, he was around 5' 7", but looked shorter.

I enjoyed his character in the Italian Job also. I think he is a good actor or at least 100 million percent better as an actor than I remember hearing in the late 80's as a musician.

He wasn't the CK man for nothing, that's for sure.

He was great in Boogie Nights, great movie overall too...

I was hesitant to watch some of his movies, but I too have found him to be a decent actor. I'd put him about 1000 times better than Nicolas Cage, but 100 times less than say Tom Hanks. He is in the top 40% probably.

nope, if it has Cage in it I probably won't either. He is the suckiest of the suck actors on the planet.

Cage was pretty good in 8mm (I think thats what it was.  The movie where hes a detective and tracks down the brutal porn ring).

I put him in the same sort of catagory as matt damon.  Seem like they'd be normal guys when not acting and not typical hollywood idiots.

its takes a lot more effort, for a 6' guy to look as "tough" as a 5'6 guy.

Well, I still stand by my critique of him in The Departed.  He just didn't seem comfortable at all, did what I call 'Reciting between breaths', it was quite noticable to me.  But I really think he's become a good actor, very surprising considering the young white rapper image he cultivated in the early '90s.  And Donny?  Wow.  He blew me away with his portrayal of Carwood Lipton in Band Of Brothers.  Who'd a thunk it coming from New Kids On The Block?

I tell you this in all honesty, I watched the series all in a row the first time I saw it (no HBO). I borrowed my buddies DVD's of it, and after that saturday night I was in shock...

hen a week or two later I heard about "Donnie" being in it. I said to myself NO FREAKING WAY! and then RE-WATCHED the whole series in order another saturday. I still couldn't pick him out. I finally went online looked hime up, and then knew the character.

I was blown away. I'll bet 95% that watched that series never knew that was donnie.

Isn't that the guy who is the brother of the guy in New Kids on the Block? Wasn't he the one that did that song along time ago, that pop song, with his shirt off for the girlies?

How did he jump to playing tough guys?
