So, removable drives (memory sticks). When I plug this thing in, the computer isn't recognizing it with the little pop up window that says "found: new hardware." It's also not showing in the "my computer" filepath. The little blue light that it normally has isn't flashing, either (technical term: little blue light).
Options to access it?

Try plugging something else into the USB port to see it it's the port that is dead, if the port still functions OK then the stick is probably dead.

Thanks ~ it's the only one I have at work. I'll take this stick home to see if the stick works there.
And when I return to work, I'll bring another stick with. Appreciate it. :)

I think some companies block the usb port for security reasons. Don't quote me on that.
That's all I know.

Dang. It doesn't work at home either. At least I backed it up a week ago. Sucks to still have to recreate another weeks worth of data on it. Couldn't come at a worse time, either ~ just when I'm training a replacement. Oh well. Thanks for the posts guys. :)

Call Skuzz... he'll do ya wonders.

Check all the ports, you might have a bad port.

So I bring the thing home, test it on my port: doesn't work still. Bring my working stick in, doesn't work.
Who would have thought both my work port and my home port would have BOTH stopped working at the same time?
*whew* I didn't have to recreate the work. :) There were more ports in the back of the computer that worked ~ just had to move the dang desk to get to them. It was worth it!!!
First thing I did when I got it working again was overwrite last weeks backup. :)

in and out, in and out, nothing sexual "mom" ;)
the interface is a weak solder joint usually, and once it is busted it is well, busted.
at $20 for a 4GB stick they are pretty much disposable lately. I've known a few (3 from work alone) to break going in and out of a PC, especially if you just yank them out after use without the "remove hardware" option.

Did ya try reinstalling the USB stacks?

Oh yeah, I never yank those things out. The only times I've even removed it (less than 10X in 3+ years), I always did the "safely remove" feature first.
I was completely happy to not have to regenerate the last weeks worth of work *whew*
=) LOL Mac =)
