Its my first Apple product. What cool sites are there out there to download stuff from? I plan to put music on it. Any movies available for Ipod? Its an 8 gb 3rd gen model....

I ripped my entire CD collection to MP3 (about 12 gig worth) a few years ago when I bought a first gen ipod mini. I bought a bunch of music through itunes for a couple of years, but now Amazon.com has a ton of stuff for the same or cheaper price as itunes, but the Amazon.com music is DRM-free so you don't have to worry about license authentication or anything like that.
I'd first rip your existing music collection, and then fill in the gaps from amazon.com. Whatever you still can't find, get from itunes but immediately burn it to CD and re-rip to DRM-free MP3 so you never lose your ability to play the music if your licenses get messed up.
There are other independent music repositories out there but my taste in music isn't very experimental so I haven't gone looking for any indie bands to listen to.

RAIDER,
We have Itunes already book marked (both sons and wife have Ipod Shuffles...dad is just catching up to the 21st century) Thanks.
Thanks for the info on Amazon, Eagl, I hate that DRM crap.
SD67, off to browse e-mule. :)

I forgot about Amazon selling MP3s.
I haven't upgraded to a Nano yet, I have a tiny Sandisk MP3 player (2gb) I use at the gym daily. FM radio and MP3s is a nice combo :) What frustrates me is buying iTunes, having to dump the music to an audio CD, then let Windows RIP the CD into MP3.
I havent found any reputable/working ways other than that to convert iTunes format into MP3
