Title: Who porked the Mk 108?
Post by: Anaxogoras on March 31, 2008, 07:26:05 PM
No conspiracy theory here, but is it possible that something changed with the new version of AH?  I get a lot more assists on aircraft that show no visible dammage, and forget hitting the fuselage of a bomber instead of the engines or wings, even with 7-8 shells.  The Mk 108 seemed a little weak before, but now it is worse. :noid

Sometimes it works in my favor.  A very good K-4 pilot caused me to overshoot the other day, and popped me with the 30mm, but only my engine died.  No fire, no other dammage.  I was able to glide away for a ditch and rob him of his kill.

Programmers who play this game have said that it is very easy to change something by accident... I would appreciate it if this were looked into.

My 108 kills as good as before. No change.

I don't see anything wrong with that. One hit completely wrecked you engine. That#s quite a bit of damage and, after all, a one hit kill.

The only thing I hate is when I clearly hit a wing or rear fuselage and the engine starts to smoke...

it's nerfed but it has been for some time now.  I just get in close and pop the other guy's henpit.  that usually solves the problem.

More specifically, it's the 30mm cannon found on the 109K-4 (G-14 optional), 110G-2, Ta-152, Me 262 and 163.  Its muzzle velocity is rather slow, but it has a high rate of fire for its size.

I've noticed this, I've needed to double-peg fighters lately to make sure they go down.

Maybe it's just me but it seems like the time between a hit registering on my FE and the corresponding catastrophic damage occurring has increased.

This was happening (and there are posts regarding it) before this most recent update.

i popped a D3A with the MK108 and it did nothing from less than 100 out.

The round went through the paper plane without exploding.

sorry for not being more correct,

i hit the D3A in the main body and the wings with maybe 7 shots at the most.

I fly the K-4 a lot.  I have not notice any difference in cannon lethality.  You still have to hit the target, which is not always easy with the 30mm.

I know the rate of fire is high for a 30mm cannon (The Germans traded rate of fire for muzzle velocity), but I believe it is still lower than a Hispano and a lot lower than 50cal.  It is possible for a maneuvering target to fly through the bullet stream without receiving a cannon hit.  Snap-shots are not easy in a K-4.  The rate of fire means you may not score a hit where you may have scored a couple of hits with 2 or 4 hispanos.

On a different note, the video of the 30mm hit on the Spitfire was cool.  Yep, it works like that in the game.  One hit, Spit looses wing.

I agree with scotch, I fly the k4 alot aswell, and i have some multiple 30mm hit sprites in snapshots that simply did nothing.

It didn't change.  In fact, it's the same lethality as it's been since version 1.04- as far back as I can easily look in our source history.

Pyro, so it's just a packet loss problem?  Is it normal that fighters (e.g. Spitfires) take a round of 30mm and only leak engine oil?  For as long as I can remember, a hit in the engine would always stop it cold.  Is it the damage model that's changed?

Show me a film and I'll tell you.

I'd have to look through a lot of films that I've compressed to save space.. I hope the offer stands if I send you those films in a week or two (at most).

Thanks.

Agreed.... It seems like the whole game has frame rate issues with the new version...
