Title: Repeated CTD....
Post by: humble on April 01, 2008, 12:16:58 AM
I've been getting 4-5 a night since the new release. doesnt seem to be getting any better at all. Invariably the game "locks up" and then Crashes. If I try and restart the game it gives me an error report. I need to reboot to reload AH. 6600/7900GT/XP sp2/84.66 drivers...

Besides a diagX what do I need to do if anything. This OS has nothing but AH on it....was flawless up till the new version.

I've got the same video card as you, and despite my better judgment (out of frustration of trying everything else to help stop the mini freezes)
I obtained the latest drivers from Nvidia, and I'm sure I'm going to catch crap from someone from using the latest drivers; but they actually have  almost all of the bugs fixed in the 9 series drivers. I was running the same drivers as you before I updated them.

I'm running the 91.47, and I played last night for a good while the mini-freezes and stutters were not nearly as bad as before. Note, I still (like others) think it has something to do with the hit sprites hitting the plane especially at real close ranges, D2-300. And I believe it was posted in Waffles sticky about once you have all the other players skins cached it should quit entirely.

But, no more than I get to play that will take quite awhile for me. lol I'm not saying run out and update your driver, I'm just saying I did out of frustration and it seemed to help mine. Although aside from the video card we are running different everything else, so that may not be your solution.

Hope this might shed some light on something for you.

Regards,
Darias

Sure cant hurt, did you just use the nvidia uninstall or did you use a 3rd party driver cleaner?

I uninstalled the drivers, booted into safe mode ran driver cleaner then booted back into Windows normally then installed the new drivers.

I downloaded Driver Cleaner Pro, if you are using the detonator drivers theres a program called Detonator RIP. I didn't need to use the latter, so I just used Driver Cleaner Pro.
