There are in this world, some truly idiotic people.
Now laser pointers are in danger of finding themselves on the banned offensive weapons list!

Why are "green" lasers so much worse than the original red ones?
Is it the brightness level of them?
-
They're very bright.
-
The green ones appear brighter than the red ones for a given power output level. It's a perception thing, and it makes it far more likely to be dazzled by a lower power green laser than a red one.
Some IR lasers can't be seen at all but can damage/destroy the retina even at very low power.

kinda off topic, but a few years ago we used to shine the lazers at the school bus drivers mirror when he was driving. funny stuff.

The wavelength is shorter. Your retina is much more sensitive to shorter wavelengths.

You were an idiot. I hope that this is still not the case.

Yeah.....................in tight situations mainly for the one holding them.

You have never seen how fast I can aim and shoot with a laser. And naturally hit the target too. :D
There is simply no comparison with using normal handgun sights. Target acquisition is simply so much faster.
Target focused shooting is definitely the way to go in close quarters combat.

Red lasers make Baby Jesus cry.

You can have it.
If I have to put up a neon sign pointing to my location to achieve target acquisition and hit my target in a tight situation..then I have lost to begin with.
If target acquisition doesn`t come naturaly, it needs to be worked on.........bad.

why? is teenage jesus pointing it in baby jesus' eye?

In theory one can make your argument in a military combat type scenario. However, even then, the heat of the battle is going to be seriously distracting any opponent. The notion that someone will in all that confusion be able to exploit your laser beam, is a bit far fetched.
I'm not fighting bad guys in Iraq, though. For domestic personal protection use here in the USA, your argument is totally irrelevant.
I've been shooting handguns for 40 years now. My family is renown for its pistol shooting abilities.
If you don't want to take advantage of new technology that is now available, that is your choice.

LOL
I` made my choice long ago.
It has nothing to do with military scenario.
In your home ,during the night, with no time for lights....you pop that puppy off and you have just made yourself a target with a neon arrow pointing to you.
Was in a big farm supply warehouse one morning around 3:00 A.M. after a thief at a job I used to do.
I knew the cat was in there because I heard him from the outside before entering. The main warehouse light master switch was in the adjoining building. Dark as a whale`s belly, but I knew the layout real well. I was in there usually 5 to 6 times a night.
A friend of mine had stopped by to have coffee with me on his way home from work.
He grabbed his 9mm with all the bells and whistles and went in with me.
I was on one side of an aisle and he was on the other. Pretty tight place. Just wide enough fro a forklift to get through.
The moron who had broke in ran into something and made a noise. My friend activated his laser sight and swept the general direction. Lots of nice new shiny stuff in there. It looked like a Kiss concert or a laser light show. :) All roads led to......the holder.
I told him if he lit that thing up again I was going to insert it in a place darker than where we were at the time.
When I found and got the burglar, he was even laughing his butt off about it. He even told my bud that if he had been armed and had wanted to it would have been too easy to take him out.
I`ve shot a year or 50+ myself. :)
If you feel the need to use <cough> modern technology...........feel free to do so.

Only green hand lasers I know about are producing by "Wicked Lasers". They are not just bright, but very powerfull for hand lasers (up to 0.45 W, common red hand lasers varies from 0.0005 to 0.005 W).

sadly, it still is.
