We are doing a family trip out of the country in a couple of months. Cell phones would be very expensive because of international roaming.
Any positive experience with the recent sporting walkie talkies on the consumer market?
Been doing some research online as well. Thanks for any help.

I use them when pulling the travel trailer around... great when backing into tight spots. Mine have about a 2 mile reach depending on the terrain. They are small and have a nice belt clip. I also use a headset when hunting with friends. You can turn to voice activated or to where you have to press a button. I suggest when hunting you use the button otherwise when you shoot your buddy may jump out of his stand. :O
If you get the ones that have a charger and be sure you have converter to plug in overseas.

We use them when one of us mows out some fields it's a far piece from the house. Whoever is on the riding mower has a walkie-talkie. Never been out of 2 mile range though, and worked fine (motorola). Usually the kids are just screwing around with them ~ but they're good for that too.

After a bit of research I found the best way is just to buy a used unlocked quad band phone here and a sim card after arriving in spain. I already have a global cell phone. Thanks for the replies.
