Well, they keep telling us that anyhow--this guy (John Lott) has gone through over 12,000 newspaper and wire service headline from '85 to 2004, and he told me what I already suspected--During the 2000 election, with Bill Clinton as president, the economy was viewed through rose-colored glasses. According to polls, voters didn’t realize that the country was in a recession. Although the economy started shrinking in July 2000, most Americans through the entire year thought that the economy was fine.
But over the last half-year, the media and politicians have said we were in a recession even while the economy was still growing.
Gas prices are going up. The economy is slowing. Talk of recession is seemingly everywhere. While the majority of people rate their personal finances positively, consumer confidence in the economy has plunged to a 16 year low, well below what it was during the last year of the Clinton administration when we were in a recession.
A Nexis search on news stories during the three-month period from July 2000 through September 2000 using the keywords “economy recession US” produces 1,388. By contrast, the same search over just the last month finds 3,166. Or, even more telling, take the three months from July through September last year, when the GDP was growing at a phenomenal 4.9 percent. The same type of Google search shows 2,475 news stories.
Over 78 percent more negative news stories discussed a recession when the economy under a Republican was soaring than occurred under a Democrat when the economy was shrinking.
I don't know why this crap continues to surprise me. We had nearly 5 years of steady growth since the 9/11 recession, and nearly every newstory covering it invariable has a 'BUT' after the obligatory good news intro  For 5 years they've been telling us the economy is crap, THEN they run stories on how the public thinks the economy is crap :O

Have been noticing this for a while. It almost seems... coordinated. :noid
Articles will concede that the definition of a recession is two consecutive quarters of negative growth, and we haven't even had one negative quarter, but it still must be a recession, by golly! Sadly, people buy into the idea and slow their spending, which really does hurt the retail sector.

CNN=Comminust News Network, Clinton News Network
NBC=News to Benefit Communism, News to Benefit Clinton
MSNBC=Main Stream News to Benefit Comminusm, Main Stream News to Benefit Clinton
It's been pretty obvious. The networks are a bunch of liers and fakes and cowards. I havnt heard of a democrat with a pair of balls except Hillary. And hers are full of communism. :D

Yeah, they are way more fair and balanced than Fox.

It seems to me people are confused on something. A recession does not mean that the economy (GDP) is shrinking. It means that it is growing at a slow rate.
Normal healthy growth is 4% to 5% annually. IIRC it is at 2% or 3% growth right now. If growth becomes negative you do not have a recession, you have a depression.

Not really, they are all left wing, they try to make the democrats look good. They dont put stuff on the media that could be negative to the clintons or the democrats. The Fox news network reports everything, even if it's against the Conservatives. The scandal about bush's vietnam record was made up by liberals, only reason people found out about it being fake was because the font wasnt around back then. CNN, NBC, CNN ate him alive. The facts about how Kerry was a fake and a lier they only supressed to make him look good.

Nuh-uh!

:lol
Alright prove to me that that John Kerry was really a good guy, Hillary Clinton's famous speach "I'm taking the rights away from the people for their own good" and all the stuff the media holds back. The media reported that Al Gore won the election for 2000 before the results were in and he was already losing big time at that point :lol

I love The O'Club. They know more than the Republican nominee does. Oh yeah, he's not a Republican. Looks like ya'll gonna have to suck it up for at least 4 years. :rofl

it'll be a miracle ..
as soon as a dem wins in Nov, 90% of the "bad" economic news will disappear from the front page .. at least until they repeal the tax breaks and tax us into a REAL depression ...

See! can't argue with women :D (Is your house adorned with little-bitty glass animals about 2 inches high? WHAT is deal there??)

Economic indicators that in modern times always show the signs of what is happening with the economy and growth. BNS railroad parking large amounts of freight cars due to lack of freight. Truckers going bankrupt and protesting due to extreme prices for fuel and lack of freight. Add in the riseing cost of goods and lack of jobs due to growth slowing down and you have major problems. Thank god our politicians have addressed this and raised my taxes.

Hey! We smarter than THAT!

It really doesn't matter what government you have.
The US economy is based on borrow & spend.
Eventually it will catch up with you no matter if it is a republican or democrat in office. But, I'm sure it makes you feel better to blame one side or the other.
