I put Ubuntu on my laptop and LOVE it..
so I decided to go dual boot on my desktop, Ubuntu for typical stuff, and keep XP just for games..
downloaded the live CD, booted to ubuntu on the laptop, did the install.. everything is peachy..
I try the same on my desktop and this is what happens....
shows Grub text, and begins to boot..
shows the UBUNU splash screen with all the options.. cant do anything, kayboard is bluetooth..
so I just wait untill it times down and by default does the live boot (which is what I want)
Ubuntu screen pops up with the slider going back and forth..
then it goes black
then the screen pops up again with the progress bar..
about 30 second or so into it when the bar as about 3/4 of the way across... it goes black and the system reboots..
it will do that over and over and over and over if I let it.
any ideas

Does your computer have an ATI display card or other brand new type of card? Linux won't boot on those.
Check compatability on Ubuntu website. If you have unsupported hardware you're in for a treat trying to get it work.

Oh and if you're trying the 64-bit version - don't. It's just as buggy in linux as it is in windows.

I have a geforce 8800 GTO
I looked around and apparently what I need to do is unplug all my USB devices, install, then do them one at a time.

I've never had a problem with an Ubuntu installation due to USB connections. Another possibility is using a VA as described in a thread below. I DL'd a basic browser app and the VMware player and one of the Ubuntu 7.10 VA's. I'd never fired it up so I did here out of curiosity. Took very little time to load and seems to be pretty flawless. Of course I have no clue if you can actually add any functionality or not. But its a pretty good basic setup. While I was typing the auto update came up and I'm downloading 211 updates for Ubuntu to my virtual OS...curiouser and curiouser.
I'll have to download AH and see if I can play it on here:)
