Title: WHICH virus caused this?
Post by: falcon23 on April 03, 2008, 06:08:52 PM
My wife has a laptop vista and last night she was doing a disc cleanup, well, she notices something funny, but fails to react to it and hit clean, next thing she knows, the comp crashes,WONT REBOOT OR ANYTHING..

Well, she manages to do an f11 and it brought up system restore.WHEW.. :pray

From what she can recall, just before she hit "CLEAN DISC",it showed something like 50GIGabytes which could/should be cleaned up...Somethiing like windows mini dump error recording..She does not remember what it exactly said..BUt today she is redoing everything, and wonders if this was caused by some nasty bug and wonders if it gone????

She has been defragging and it is taking like 4 hours so far just to defrag and it is only like 60% done..

Definetly a nasty of some sort..

It may have been during cleanup Windows asking if she'd like to compress old files to free up disc space (a horrible horrible feature but not a virus)

EvlPrsn identified the particular virus in his post. ;)
eBay can get you a nice copy of XP that will fix it for you :)

You may want to do a checkdisk on your drive. If you are having problems getting through a defrag, you may have some bad sectors on your drive. This could cause the operating system crash. Check the system log in event viewer and look for disk errors. You should at least see the origanal error. Don't just rebuild your system without at least checking the health of your drive.

OK GUYS,my wife found the problem after doing a google and well, you guys were spot on,it is the OS.. :lol
Here is a link to what EXACTLY happened, and MNAY other people have experienced this..The only thing I know that she did that some others did not,was too hit F11 to basically restore the OS...

Psting this for anyone else who happens to run into this problem...

You had a Wife-bot Falcon. As far as I know Norton or any other AV has no cure.

Only kidding!
