There's nothing like handing someone his lunch, and then they PM you and cry on your shoulder. Is there any way to set up a permanent squelch list?
-
Maybe have something that asks you before someone Pm's you if you would allow them to do it.
-
Why you can't squelch him now? Just go to his name and select squelch. If the guy comes on the next day and continues to pm you with a rant about the night before then i'd think it's time to let HT handle it. HT can and will take away your text/vox ability if you abuse it.

I know how to squelch a player, but quite frankly I'm not interested in having to squelch someone every time I log on. If he/she is going to pm me and cry when they get shot down (or whatever their problem is), then I don't have a lot of motivation to give them another chance to do so. A permanent squelch list is an easy way to get rid of some of the garbage that's floating around.

But if you look at that from a community stand point, it realy is just sticking your head in the sand to the problem. i.e. let someone else deal with it. This attitude fosters and breeds it's self, and sudenly doing anything you wan't is "accepatble" on line and on this bbs.
This is why we have never implemented a perminate squelch list, if some one is so problematic that lots of people want to put them on a perminate squelch list, well quite frankly that person should not be here.

Why solve the problem when "someone else will". The perfect parallel is the "Wow, someone was just murdered in this Apartment Complex. But, I'll wait until one of my neighbors calls the police instead of me."
Bottom line - "Dispersal of Responsibility" is far from the answer. What scares me more, are the folks such as yourself that allow and encourage this "need of a permasquelch". You are afraid to step up and do something about it, but will be the FIRST ones to yell in the background while someone else leads the charge.
Take last night, someone had just typed a racial slur on 200 when I had logged on. I had a few folks laughing as I nicely tried telling him to stop the ignorance. I had a lot of PM's saying thank you. Simply squelching the tool only allows the lunacy to continue.

Agree with Masherbrum on this one. There's an old saying -- "For evil to triumph, it is only necessary for good men to do nothing." You don't have to be obnoxious, and thanks to HTCs excellent emphasis on customer service you don't even have to solve the problem yourself. Speak up, and if they continue to be tards then report or email. It's that simple.
On a more specific level, I'd be against perma-squelch simply because I've seen more than a few...ummmm.... difficult...people change their way of doing business. I think we all have moments we regret, and we should all be thankful that those around us gave another chance.

Horsecrap. Were the ones paying the money to play this game and it shouldn't be up to us to play arena cop. Not just that but there are always some people who aren't doing anything wrong but you just dont want to hear their nonsense, "and Im talking about the whiners and the snivelers here". Yaknow? The guy whos always having someone steal their kill in a furball? Or snivels nonstop about Whirbels preventing his vulching? Even worse are the shade accounts popping join squad messages right when your winning a dogfight. We should have the option to disable these join requests too.
Same thing with the forum ignore feature. Some of these people do nothing but spam threads. Why should we be forced to have to read their nonsense?

You don't, just skip past it.

i dont pay to be a moderator, i pay to play cartoon airplanes. if some tool says something offensive, i have no problem reporting them, or squelching them. however, there are some who i have no desire to hear from or speak to, EVER. unfortunately, they dont always share in this view, and continue to correspond via 200, or P.M.s. in these instances i would like the ability to permasqeuelch.
so, as i asked in another thread, make it were a person must ask permission to pm, give permasquelch, or both would be fine with me.
NOT

OK, I can accept the "I'm not going to be a moderator" argument. You guys have a good point there.
But here's what I do: When I find someone's getting annoying, or starting to provoke me into an argument, I squelch that person. That pretty well ends the problem for that day. I can't recall squelching more than 4 people on a night, ever -- and most nights it's none at all.
And here's where my real point comes in...it's unusual for me to have to squelch the same person night after night. Even those special few whose personalities mash my buttons have enough good days that I only shut them off every so often. And like I said before, several people who used to be on the naughty list have grown up enough that it's just not a problem.
Even so, this is an area that generates strong feelings. I sure can see where you're coming from, but the fact that this request has been left unfulfilled for years makes me suspect that HT looks at things differently.

So we're comparing an obnoxious crybaby with a murderer? I'm sorry to say I'm having a bit of a time seeing this as a "perfect" parallel.

What scares me about this is a comparison that isn't anywhere close to being the same. You're starting out by comparing murder to being a crybaby.
Take last night, someone had just typed a racial slur on 200 when I had logged on. I had a few folks laughing as I nicely tried telling him to stop the ignorance. I had a lot of PM's saying thank you. Simply squelching the tool only allows the lunacy to continue.
Do you have any idea how offensive this comparison is? Perhaps you just don't get it. On one hand we have an ignorant racist that's spewing on 200. He needs to be reported and squelched and perhaps a few other things. On the other hand, we have a crybaby that, while obnoxious, isn't exactly the same type of issue to most people. Perhaps you can give a specific set of rules for policing crybabies, so I can know when it's appropriate to inform HT?

I see you don't see the similarities. A shame, you are trying to provide commentary deemed "I pwnt you", but my comparison is EXACTLY what is going on. So, with that I'll just say this as simple as I can.
It's your $14.95. If you want to "ignore it" and play, you are aren't a part of the solution, but instead you are part of the problem (I hate cliches too). HTC doesn't know of most incidents unless someones gives them a heads up with an email or phone call. Reports do nothing of the sort that folks think they do.
WE are the "Community". HTC CANNOT, WILL NOT, SHOULD NOT have to have someone (HTC Employee, not Mods) in the Arenas 24/7. Personally, I've become tired of reading "Adults post with WHINES at their thread starting posts." Therein, lies your answer of what needs to change. IF a game with the MAJORITY of it's Consumer Base is ADULTS and some "ADULTS" don't think they should be bothered with it, they really need a moment of Self-Introspection. Only to ask themselves of "Why they are whining" and expecting "other's to do THEIR work for them."
It's truly a shame some need to be selfish in a video game simulation of WWII Combat.

You tell us, you started this thread. If you've been playing since 2005, you should have run across 100+ threads related to "PermaSquelch".

Thank you for proving my point. You put out an offensive comment. By your rules, you should be called on it. Then when I call you on it, you go off on a crying tangent.

Wrong. I stand by what I said earlier. Fact is, you HAD NO point. Keep hiding your head in the sand, the problem will be here in 5 more years.

Let's review, shall we? I said I'd like a permanent squelch list to deal with crybabies. You said that's bad and the community should deal with that kind of problem by calling the person out. You then made an offensive statement, claiming racism and murder were equivalent to being a crybaby. I called you on it. You went on a rant, proving that calling out someone doesn't work. Perhaps you're afraid of being on everyone's permanent squelch list?
-
perma squelch yes please!
-
Honestly, I've not had anyone annoy me to the point of wanting permasquelch. In the whole time I've played I've only ever squelched one person, and that was on country and a persistent caps typing annoyance that would not listen to the dozens of helpful folk who tried to assist them.
-
I'd like to see perma squelch in the game. Some folks are lower than a snakes belly in a wagon rut and I squelch them immediately upon entering because all they do is spew. Actually only one I do this with at this time.

Are people that weak and wimpy that a lil text will ruin their game play......

And exactly how well has that worked so far?

There enough things in text buffer which neither bad nor wrong but still very annoying for some ppl. Say "MISSION POSTED PLEASE JOIN!!!!!!!" repeated every 10 secs always in caps. Say i dont want to see it, what i supposed to do? Ask them to shut up? Report them? What?
Of course, i will simply squelch them.
