Title: The Grid to Render the Web Obsolete?
Post by: Reschke on April 07, 2008, 02:27:36 PM
Sorry but I don't think I like this "cloud computing" idea.

It is interesting but something just makes me a little scared of all this talk like grid and matrix....

At least they are writing a new transfer protocol for it.  Although it will be based on the old FTP, the new GridFTP should bring things a little more up to date.  Shows promise.

High speed networks make cloud computing possible.  It doesn't mean you will be restricted to it on the Grid network.  Local storage is not going away anytime soon.

This will be to the Internet what the Interstate was to the US road system, only instead of three times as fast it will be 10,000 times as fast.  (http://hallbuzz.com/images/unlinked/poker.png)

The day I trust my files to the Intardnets will be the day I get my head into my rear end.

Meh it's just academic waffle...

What does the grid have that Internet doesn't? While the Internet has been built by linking together a mesh of cables and routing equipment most of which lacks the capacity for high-speed data transmission, the grid, by contrast has been built with dedicated fibre optic cables and modern routing centres, ensuring there are no outdated components that manage to slow down the speed of data transmission.
